Certain hatch patterns not being printed

Anonymous
Not applicable

After upgrading to 2016, certain hatch patterns are not being printed. Look at following example

In Inventor:

1.jpg

PDF file:

2.jpg

It looks like certain hatch patterns are not getting printed regardless of line weight, colour, etc.

Anyone had similar issue?! Smiley Frustrated

If you post the file, I will test here.

You might try increasing the vector resolution in the PDF export options.

Are you printing to pdf or saving to pdf?  Which ever one you are doing try the opposite.  Also, try a different pdf creator like Dopdf or Cute pdf Writer

Or change the Quality from Standard to High-Quality in the PDF options

Inventor 2020, In-Cad, Simulation Mechanical

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

There is nothing special about the file John.

Run Inventor 2016, create a new drawing file containing Gravel pattern. Then try to export it as PDF. If the result is good on your machine, then please let me know.

Same drawing file was OK  Inventor 2015 (before upgrading)

Both actually.

The problem is explicit even in Print Preview stage. I doubt it to be because of PDF engine.

EDIT:

I tried other PDF creation engines (as suggested) but still no good. 😞

I put it even to maximum detail level but still negative.

It sounds like a bug in v2016 to me. Don't you think so?

Since the Product Design Suite 2016 has shipped yet I am unable to test. I didn't have any issues with the Beta version (but a lot can change from Beta to final release). Generally changing the Quality from Standard to High Quality Print solves most issues in either the Export File as: PDF solves the problem. I'm using the latest version of Adobe Acrobat DC on my system.

Blair, thanks for the reply.

As stated earlier, I doubt the issue is caused by PDF creation process because it exposes itself even in Print Preview stage.

These are outcome of PDF setting with different resolution as you suggested:

Normal:

1.jpg

High Quality:

2.jpg

As a workaround, I was hoping to open the drawing on my other machine which still has Inventor 2015 installed. Sadly, since I have once saved this drawign in 2016, it can no longer be opened in earlier versions complaining about imcompatibilty between databases. Any idea how I can revert it back to previous version at least to be able to open it in 2015 and send the drawing to client?!

Odd in deed, the only way to convert a 2016 file to 2015 is to export the IPT or IAM file to a neutral format such is STEP or IGES, import into 2015 and create a new IDW.

I have asked that this be forwarded on to Support to look at.

Thanks for the effourt.

UPDATE

----------------

It turned out that only ANSI patterns, out of following list, appear in Print Preview (hence PDF):

1.jpg

Any other pattern except ANSI ones will be simply ignored.

Hi! This is indeed wrong. I am able to reproduce it using PDF OUT and DWF OUT. I will follow up with development and see where the exact problem is and how to resolve it soon.

Many thanks!

Thanks Johnson. Well that would be highly appreciated if you investigate the issue and advise accordingly.

Meanwhile I ended up converting IDW files to DWG and make my PDFs out of AutoCAD instead.

I have also come across this problem. I found it when trying to plot a drawing and no hatching shows up. I did test exporting and printing to Adobe PDF and have the same issue. This needs to be addressed soon as we use custom hatch patterns in a lot of our drawings that need to be present in prints.

It appears that Update 1 (5/5/2016) resolved this for exporting to PDF, but custom hatches still don't show up printing to a printer.  - Lanny

I have also verified this, they export to PDF but will not print... don't even show up in the print preview.

Hello All,

We are also seeing this issue.  Has anyone seen a resolution?

Thanks in advance.

I spoke too soon -- update 1 made it work for PDFs... but update 2 still doesn't send to a printer correctly.

It been a while form my posting the original problem and there's still no resolution from Autodesk MAY BE in the NEXT hot fix but I'm not going to hold my breath.
