CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe constant CPU Usage in 2023.1 update

CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe is constantly using 4-5% cpu on 8 core 16 thread CPU system.

I have not noticed this bug in the earlier version.

This process relates to the Home page as killing it makes the home screen blank

Hi! It does sound like the behavior is related to the Home page. If it drags down the performance, please turn it off (Tools -> App Options -> General -> uncheck "Show Home on start up").

I did it turn off as you had suggested. But I need the home page to view the recent files and hence I start it manually after each Inventor restart. This has brought down the ideal usage to around 2%. It is better then before but still needs to be flagged as a bug.

It seems like a bug. Killing the process and then restarting home in inventor fixes it for some time.

I am also getting high CPU usage with this process. It makes my laptop run hard with the fan working a lot. I think this needs to be reported as a bug.

Edit: I have attached a screenshot of the process CPU usage. Sometimes up to 15%.

I'm trying to narrow down the problem.

Did you see this problem in Inventor 2023 RTM?

Did you see this problem right after Inventor was started with Application Home on, or did you click some buttons before you saw this problem?

Roughly how many recent files were showing in your Appliation Home?

Did you have some anti-virus software installed on the machine?

Can you please try below workflow to check the CPU usage:

- Turn off Application Home through Application Options (General Page | Show Home on startup)

- Then re-start Inventor

- Click Team Web on Ribbon

Here are the replies:

1. I am not sure what do you mean by Inventor 2023 RTM. I did notice this problem in 2023 Update.

2. As soon as inventor starts this process consumes 0.2-1 % percent CPU and it keep in steadily rising and reaches 4-5 % after 10-15 minutes or so while working on files.

3. I have kept it show 50 recent files on the homepage.

4. No I do not have any anti-virus installed.  I have even disabled Microsoft defender.

5. Team web  CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess does not consume CPU when idle. Its the homepage's process only that has the CPU usage leak bug.

My workaround for this is to open all the files I need and the kill the process using task manager. In case I need to open more recent files, I open home again from the quick access menu and then kill the process after opening the files

Hello Yuming,

1. I have noticed this issue since updating to the latest update but I think in general 2023 seems to run a bit harder than 2022.
2. I have roughly 24 recent files in my home page but this depends on what Projects file I have activated.
3. I do have anti-virus running but this is governed by our IT department.

Is this always reproducible on your machine? I.e. right after Inventor is launched, the CPU usage starts to increase.

Hi Yuming,

I disabled the home start up as suggested this morning and Inventor has been working well. I opened the home page about 10 minutes ago and it has already started consuming power.

I have now closed Inventor down again to stop the process.

Based on that it seems like the home page is causing this issue.

You can just kill the process instead of closing the whole inventor like I have said. This seems to the workaround for now.

So I did a fresh install on a new computer and still the problem exists.

Hi! I just check the defect status for INVGEN-63695. There isn't any meaningful update yet. The fix to the defect defect is currently targeting to 2023.2 update.

Isn't that the definition of irony? 

Fix the Home with the 2023.1 update, but simultaneously make it unusable by introducing a defect to burn out your CPU.

I can't wait to have my Home Screen back - I miss it!
