CC / FG "Blue Book" omissions (Steel)

There seems to be many omissions from Content Centre and therefore Frame Generator.

For example; BS EN 10219 is included, but BS EN 10210 isn't 😞

The difference between BS EN 10219 & BS EN 10210 one is cold rolled and the other hot formed, meaning the radii at the corners are different and therefore the mechanical properties change slightly http://roymech.co.uk/Useful_Tables/Sections/steel_section_index.htm

BS 4848 is included, but this standard was replaced 😞

E.H.S sections are not included 😞

I've attached a copy of the Tata "Blue Book" as this is what a lot of Steel Designers and Detailers expect to use, including the historical, non-standard stuff.

Hello @Anonymous there are many different standards not included within Inventor, are you familiar with how to create your own to add to the list?

Who has the time to "Author" either CC or FG profiles ?  Bosses certainly don't consider this as time sent productively Smiley Sad

 

From what I've read, CC and FG author things differently or at least need different considerations; Start Plane, End Plane, etc.

 

Does Inventor need to be running in both Authoring operations ?

 

That might have sounded like a stupid question, but why can't the profile be created, planes added and named, parameters named etc. then have a separate Authoring tool ?

 

A separated Authoring tool that could work connect to the relevant IPT file and then import a CSV or XLS(X) file with the relevant data fields.

 

I accept I need to look at authoring more closely, but I also need to import data from a spread sheet etc.

 

Most of the data I need is in tables, either on Internet or in PDFs, this can be copied and pasted in a spreadsheet and then used in the authoring process.

 

From the video I've just watched, these seems complicated from somebody who has never done it before, learning something through making mistakes isn't seen as productive Man Sad

Based on the thread, the issue was logged as a defect, INVGEN-14953. The latest status shows that the issue was just addressed recently on an internal build targeting future release (not 2019 updates unfortunately).

I'm currently reverse engineering the basics of a structure at Drax power station so we can route a new dust extraction system through.

 

The original design used the current steel sections available in UK - see PDF attached to O/P.

 

Glad to hear this is being addressed. Two places for useful information in this regard are :-

I watched a video of on YouTube about Authoring FG / CC profiles, seems very complicated. Plenty of opportunities to make mistakes. Are there any Tutorials and related downloadable files for Assembly Components Generators ?

 

Noticed there was one dialogue box dedicated to mapping parameters. Do these parameters coincide with the new parameters used across Europe in the EuroCodes, in particular EuroCode 3 ?

 

It would be helpful if they did, Inventor parameters could then be linked to engineering report software to produce the documentation that goes with CE Marking

@johnsonshiue  I forgot to mention, the PDF in the O/P, SCI P363, also has details of cut-outs etc. when joining 2 different sections.

 

Whilst I'm not a detail steel designer, It is very helpful to know where there will be steel so that holes can be drilled.

 

A lot of detail steel designers will use that document, almost like a bible. I need to make sure my designs are the same as theirs.

Frame Generator pulls the profile from the Content Center.  There aren't two separate authoring operations for this.

 

I'm not familiar with the standards you reference (I'm in US), so I may be oversimplifying here.  But if the difference is just the values of equivalent dimensions, such as two families of tubes with different corner radii, then you don't have to "Author" anything at all.  You can just copy the CC family and change the values in the table as necessary.

 

Using this method, I've made round HSS tube from one of the existing pipe families, and probably a few others.  I have a former coworker who once copied a steel flat bar family and used it as the basis of making a family of standard lumber sizes.  If the shape is the same, just with different dimensions, then the Authoring process doesn't necessarily even need to come into play.

@johnsonshiuehopefully DIN 1025 was also looked at.

 

HEA beams don't exist in the library, HEB seem to be okay. HEM don't appear to exist.

Inventor 2018 Content Center already has all HE beams according to EURONORM 53-63.

DIN 1025 appears to have been replaced by DIN EN 10034

 

At a point of information

All Euronorm standards (EN) are the same, except the language.

For example, you could refer to the Silicon content of; Class 1, Table 1, page 12 of BS EN 10025-2

and it should be the same as

"Silizium" content of; "Klasse" 1, "Tabelle" 1, "Seite" 12 of DIN EN 10025-2

which should be the same as

"πυρίτιο" content of; "τάξη" 1, "τραπέζι" 1, "σελίδα" 12 of HE EN 10025-2
