Cant open files in Inventor 2020

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

few days ago all of my Inventor Folders got deleted from the computer but I managed to restore them. But now Inventor is not allowing me to open them.

I managed to open few Models because I sent them to someone so I only had to download them again and tehy work. But the ones that got restored wont open. I keep getting the "Resolve Link" dialog box. (pictures are attached, but in german)

any Idea how to fix it ?

I did try copying the files in the mentioned path with no sucess.

Are you using the right project file?

The files need to be in your project search paths for it to find them.

Zip and Attach the folder here.

Rather than open the assembly *.iam file - open each individual part *.ipt file.

Do they open OK?

If yes, then go back and open the *.iam file.

Each time it asks to Resolve Link - click on the appropriate*.ipt file.

What has happened is in addition to the file name that you assign, Inventor also assigns an internal file name.  Somehow in your process of restoration - Inventor sees these as different internal file names than what we’re originally referenced by the assembly.

In the open dialogue, check that the file you are opening matches the year of your software.

You were talking about some other people giving you files so wanted to make
sure they weren't on a different version.

Attach at least one of the *.ipt files here.

This should be easy.

Your pictures show the errors opening an assembly. What error do you get when trying to open the IPTs/parts?
Did your Inventor get reinstalled, or your Windows user get renamed? Check if Inventor is still set as the default opener for the IPT files, by right-clicking an IPT and selecting "Open With":
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2020\Bin\Inventor.exe

If your IPTs no longer open even if you drag and drop them into an Inventor application, I would suggest a repair, then a reinstall if needed.

I recommend that you do not reinstall Inventor until you have Attached a file here.

I think the solution is much easier than reinstalling Inventor.

"Database" errors as such usually mean the file is corrupted and you can't do anything about it. Even Navisworks could not read it.

Hi! The file is probably encrypted. I tried to open it using 7zip or Notepad. Neither can open the file. I am not sure it is a legitimate Inventor file, though it has ipt as file extension.

Many thanks!

Johnson may have a point. I opened it in notepad and there was code there,
but it was as if it was all white text on white background and you couldn't
read any of it.
