Cannot import dxf to inventor file

I have searched far and wide for weeks with no answer. Inventor is extremely limited in functionality, but this takes the cake. I cannot import a dxf file INTO an existing part file to USE AS GEOMETRY. Instead, Inventor insists that dxf files be opened separately and can never be used in a part file. Has anyone found a way to defeat this ridiculous nonsense? In Rhino, this is a 2-click operation that works flawlessly.

This is a very easy process.  Take a look at the screencast for the process.  By the way, this process depends on having DWG Trueview installed which is normally installed along with Inventor unless you prevented it.

Thanks for your video, this is helpful and I have not seen this information anywhere before. I really don't see why they created a button for "ACAD" nor do I understand what it means. DXF is a far more common term and the standard in the industry. Also, why is this option NOT available when I choose FILE, IMPORT? Would that not make more sense?

I'm thinking there's either something wrong with my installation of Inventor or some other issue, but when I follow your instructions, Inventor stops working for around a minute even when importing the simplest of dxf files. I tried a regular sized file and it stopped altogether.

Do you think there is a setting I need to change or is this "coffee break" lag normal with Autodesk?

Hi! I suspect there is geometry specific behavior here. Something is wrong. It should be fairly straight forward. Please share the DXF file here or send it to me directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com).

Many thanks!

There is nothing wrong with the dxf file. I have opened this entire folder of dxf files in Rhino, Corel and Solidworks multiple times. All of them are slow or crash Inventor.
