Cannot flat pattern

Hello!

I am trying to get a flat pattern from the object below. 3D model of the object in the attachment. While trying to get a flat pattern a pop up apperas (in attachment) which states "Bend has only one side. Please check the Thickness setting in the sheet metal styles." The thickness in metal sheet rule is set to 4 mm and this is the same as object's thickness. I do not know why it is not working.

I know about the unwrap tool but I was wondering if there is a way to get the result from flat pattern tool.

Thank you!

@joanna.kaminskaPJNGJ

You used Loft rather than Lofted Flange.

Even easier Contour Roll.  Only need a single line.

Also, the way you modeled it only the cut edges (which are not perpendicular to the flat) are 4mm.

The part is 3.98 thick as modeled.

@JDMather is right. You should use dedicated tools for sheet metal modeling, not general tools.

The main problems with your model are:

  1. Incorrect material thickness (which is due to trigonometry)
  2. Peripheral surfaces not perpendicular to the face.

Dedicated sheet metal modeling tools solve these problems so you don't have to think about them at all.

    The piece you posted is a simple segment of a cone, which Inventor can flat pattern very easily.  The attached file (Inventor 2024 format) is one way to model this, not even involving Sheet Metal tools-- a simple Revolve feature is all that is needed.
