cannot change pipe length

Hi,

I am really struggling with this and cannot see what is worng. I have only recently been using the tube and pipe tools and we have created a few custom libraries to use.

I am editing a library created by someone else that is not working properly. The pipes do not seem to be created to varying lengths, rather they all become the same length and leaving gaps in the run.

Any ideas on how I fix this?

It sounds like when the pipe was authored for tube and pipe, the incorrect values were mapped or it was never authored for it (tube and pipe).   Attach one of the pipes here and also indicated which version of Inventor you are using.

To add what Mark said, either the parameters weren't mapped right, or the length parameter isn't a custom parameter with a range.  All your segments look the same length.

Hi,

Thanks for the guidance. I have solved my problem.

As you suggested, the parameter for pipe length was a fixed 10in rather than a custom parameter. I had tried making this column a custom parameter and it didn't seem to solve the problem. However, I was updatting the existing route to try to get the pipe lengths to change. They were not updated until I deleted the pipes and route completely. Everything worked fine when inserting a new route.

Cheers

You also need to Replace Family Template in CC if the Pipe was published with extrusion fixed length rather than pointing to a parameter.

Also when editing the template make sure the correct base quantity is used by checking Tools / Document Settings / Bill of Materials tab and in the Base Quantity select the driving length parameter.

This will report correct quantity, total quantity in BOM, Part Lists and Material lists.
