Can't select sectioned components in an assembly (in .iam)

I never paid attention to this before, because I guess I would always click "End Section" before creating my selection set, but I would rather know if I'm missing something.

(Edit: I'm talking about selecting with a window, not picking the items one-by-one).

Strange, I have no trouble selecting assembly parts that are sectioned, must be a setting somewhere.

Thanks for checking that, maybe it's the graphics card (Quadro P4000)?...

Hi! Do you mean "Prehighlight" or "Select"? I guess you may have turned off "Prehighlight." Go to Tools -> App Options -> Colors -> check "Enable Prehighlight."

Many thanks!

It's "select". Please see below. When I have a half-section active and do a crossing window to select items, I am only getting the content center items (whether or not I am in component or part priority).

When I  end the section view, I get what I expect (everything in the crossing window at the set priority-components or parts).

Hi Mitchell,

The behavior does not make sense to me. It looks like a bug. If possible, please share the files with me directly

johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!

Hi Mitchell,

Many thanks for sharing the files with me! As I showed you in the screencast, I cannot reproduce the selection behavior you are seeing. Unfortunately, I cannot explain it either. Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed, the graphics driver is updated, and the mouse driver is updated also. Are you using 3DConnexion device? If yes, please update the driver too.

Thanks again!

I seem to have similar behaviour but I have never really noticed it before. When the model is half sectioned, a crossing window only selects some of the components. For me, it is not just content centre parts, in an assembly it selects some parts I have created plus some but not all of the screws etc. The choice seems to be random but when I end the section & use a crossing window, all parts are selected.

Inv2022 64bit updated today.

Win10 64bit.

Bingo. That's exactly what I'm talking about.

Hi Johnson, if you try what you did in your video and use a crossing window instead, you will see the effect I am talking about (you won't see it if you pick or hover over the items individually as you did in that video). It seems like the crossing window selection method is deactivated when there is a section view active (but I need to see inside while I am selecting with crossing window, and it seems impossible).

Reproduced in 2023. I can select individually in the graphics window or from the browser, but not with a crossing window.  Like the others, Content Center parts that are sectioned will select, but standard modeled parts do not.

Thank you for looking into that, Chris (and Johnson). Unfortunately, that wasn't the answer I was hoping for.

Hi Mitchell and Chris,

Many thanks for the clarification! This looks like a bug to me. I think window-select should work too. Let me work with the project team to understand the behavior better.

Thanks again!

With my example that is not the whole description. In the attached screen shot, I've used a crossing window to select the whole assembly. In the browser you can see that it has selected some but not all of the user created parts i.e., 1208 & 14490PR selected but not 12371J & 12891C. Towards the bottom of the browser you can see that it has selected some but not all of the B0015 screws. These are all the same model & are renumbered content centre parts.

I can understand that some parts are not selected because they are in the 'invisible' area of the half section but a lot of those unselected parts are fully circular & should have been picked up.

Interesting and agreed. They need to fix the logic of this crossing window (and the seclection set it creates); right now, it's counterintuitive.

Thank you, that would be great!
