Can't save file, only save as

Hi,

When I created a new file (or with a existing file), I can save it normally. After I have worked in the file, I can not save file anymore. I just get a message to do a save as. My file are in read-only mode.

The files are saved on the network without using the Vault.

Why is Inventor doing this?

I work with Inventor 2022 and Windows 10 Pro.

Sounds like a network issue, but let’s do a simple check first -

Q1. What version of 2022 (Update Number) are you running?

This happens to me when I or someone else on the network has the file opened somewhere/anywhere (even on a monitor with a minimized window you can't readily see). Alternatively, if it's driving you crazy, just save it with a new name and use that one instead. (But the file was always found to be open somewhere else-and no, windows will not allow you to do anything about it).

First thing I would do is install the latest update for your version of Inventor...

Since you are not using Vault - I would use Projects

The *.ipj file could be on your local drive or on the network drive (I would try both ways - depending on how other users at your company access files).

We have this problem for a few month. Before it worked fine.

We already use a project file. We have like 10 Inventor running.

Is it possible that the problem is that not everybody have the same update?

Hi! The behavior does not make sense. This is likely related to the user's read/write privilege and whether or not Inventor is allowed to save. A few things to check.

1) Install all critical Windows updates and the latest graphics driver.

2) Clean up %temp%.

3) For the folder you try to save to, make sure you have the read/write privilege.

4) Right-click on Inventor desktop icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> check "Run as Admin."

5) Install Inventor 2022.5.1 update.

5) Is the drive partitioned as FAT or NTFS?

Many thanks!

Hi! Are you using a PDM system to manage the files? Is the folder a library folder? Is it an OneDrive folder?

Many thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I think we found the problem.
It has to do with system permissions.
