Can't Parametrize Joints?

I'm trying to add an open and close state to this box. I Have a linked spreadsheet where I was planning to simply type 90, 0, or -90 for the three box states. However, when I try to enter the parameter into the joint, it doesn't seem to care. Are joints simply not able to be used with parameters? 

The spreadsheet is properly linked etc.

Likely a matching units issue.  Try "Box_State * 1 deg" to convert the unitless value from Excel to an angle.

Did you specify deg as the units in the spreadsheet?

If not, Inventor assumes mm (or in).
