can't find rotate button - -assembly

Hi!

I use inventor 2017.

I need to rotate a part on a specified degree.

The only button  I see is the free rotate.

How do I rotate part on the specified degree.

Thank you!

You use angle constraint

@Anonymous Grip Snap is your tool. Rotate, translate,  ... it has it all.

A really powerful tool; check this out:

I never knew that it existed until @salariua pointed it out in this thread.

I have always use the method suggested by @mcgyvr and suspect that it the technique that you should be learning as well.

Can you attach your assembly here?

@JDMather!

Yes, I have solved the issue with an angle constraint.

Yes, it works!

But I want to learn @salariua's method.

It seems to be very powerful!.

So, please if you find understandable tutorial, please let me know!

Thanks!

I think @JDMather and @mcgyvr are right, you probably need constraint more than grip snap.

I am still fighting it as well (learning it) but I suspect I will be using it more and more.

I have a lot of BIM projects which need to be coordinated with NavisWorks or Glue360 where the client moves my kit around and expects me to match and modify iam layout. For those situations, I found constraints and relationships too slow and it's faster to use grip snaps or "iProperties" "Occurrence" tab "Current Offset from Parrent Assembly Origin" to quickly move stuff around.

Because most of the constraints are chained and interconnected it takes too long to edit just the right amount or to find the right constraint to edit.

Grip Snap is better than iProps / Occurrence because it operates on multi-selection instead of one item at a time.

@Anonymous this is your chance to shine, learn it and teach others how to use it 🙂

Depending on your selection you can do different operation and once you start the command you have more settings on right-click Options, like free drag or the option to move grounded components/work features which I like.

I can suppress all constraints (recommended for large assemblies) ground all components and change position with grip snap.

@salariua, hi!

It would be great if you could create screen cast on what you know regarding snap & grip.

So others could continue exploration further  without reinventing bicycle.

Thanks!
