Can't Create Flat Pattern

Hi!

I seem to be having an issue with creating a flat pattern for the attached design. I've made two similar ones that are smaller following the same steps so I'm not sure where I went wrong here.

I am using 2021 Inventor

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you Attach one of these examples that worked - I don't think this is the correct technique to use.

Hi,

Here is one of the files that work.

I'm not sure why this one works.

Hello

@Anonymous

You have not used sheet metal features, so will not be able to flat pattern.

I have attached a .IPT of a part similar to yours. Which you could follow to create your part.

I started with drawing 2 profiles, then a lofted flange.

I then created a RIP in the steel to allow it to flat pattern.

I then created the profile to be cut, selecting cut normal to cut the sheet metal correctly.

Hope this helps?

If needed, i will do a screen cast for you.

Thomas.

My attempt Attached.

In your 19 file - if you go to wireframe view and examine the Flat Pattern, the curved edge is not perpendicular to the flat.

Hi! The first part fails to create flat pattern because of the Contour Roll. The Contour Roll requires unroll and then unfold. In this case, the Contour Roll geometry was completed deleted so Inventor go confused. I personally think the first part modeling steps are a bit unnecessarily convoluted. I don't see a reason to use Contour Roll here.

Many thanks!
