Can't attach hole note to "hidden" hole geometry

In the attached pics of a weldment, we have a tapped hole in a plate (#2), then a cap screw (#3) gets threaded in, and tack welded into place. (Our basic standards have us dimensioning these individual components in the welded views.)

Without the screw in place, I can attach the hole note to the tapped hole. Everything is fine. Once the screw is in place, the screw's (external thread) geometry "covers up" the geometry of the plate's internal threads, and the hole note is detached. Any new hole note references the threads of the screw (3/8-16 UNC-2A), not the hole (2B omitted).

Is there any way to connect the note, properly, short of just overriding text?

Hi! The behaviors don't look right to me unless the Hole feature had been deleted. The first thing I would try is to open the part and go to Manage -> Rebuild All. Does it work now? Please share the files here. Forum experts can help take a look to understand the issue better.

A "Rebuild All" had no effect. I've attached a ZIP of the files.

A view of just that IPT works fine within the same DWG. Its only problem is when the screw is "occupying the same space."

Hi! No worries! It happens to me from time to time. I took a quick look at the updated files. I have a theory about why the annotation became sick.

I am able to reproduce the behavior. The is about the ambiguity of the bolt and the hole. The bolt and the hole are both threaded. When they are assembled and presented in a drawing view. It can be hard to tell it is the bolt or the hole you are documenting. You can get either but not both.

 To reproduce the behavior, try the followings.

1) Edit the View 3 -> uncheck associative Design View option.

2) Make the two bolts invisible.

3) Create a Hole Note for the Hole. It will work fine.

4) Make the two bolts visible.

The Hole Note will become sick because the bolt threads seem to have higher priority. If you create a new note on the same circular edge, the note will be a Thread Note, not a Hole Note.

I am not sure if there is a good solution here. I guess you may want to avoid the ambiguity by documenting the Hole Note separately without the bolts.

Possible workaround?

I made a detail view and applied a break out view to it.

Set the section participation for the bolt so it gets sectioned, in order to get to the threads of the hole.

If you turn on hidden lines you can attach it. Could then turn off visibility for other hidden lines if not needed.
