Can't assemble parts correctly

Hi everyone,

I am using Inventor 2016 to model a permanent magnet synchronous motor. When I try to assemble the stator, rotor and the magnet together, I can't place the magnet correctly. Every time that I use the constraint tool to align the magnet to the sunken on the rotor, it just can't add the constraints and failed to align the magnet to the sunken.

The attachment is the assemble file of the model and the dwg file shows how these parts should be aligned (the magnet is rotated manually to achieve this position).

Is there something I am doing wrong? I hope someone can help me.

You need to attach the individual part files that make up the assembly file.

Here is the file of the stator, rotor and magnet. The magnet is composed of 6 individual magnets. Each individual magnets has a length of 80mm and it includes 4*20mm magnet pieces. Each piece includes 6 individual parts (magnet extrusion 1-6). The full magnet sets should look like the file called '6 magnets'.

Hi! The file you attached is incomplete. It is missing full magnet.iam and possibly other components too. Please use Pack and Go and zip up all the reference files.

Sorry, but I don't have such a file called full magnet.iam. I just assemble these 6 magnet extrusions to form a 20mm magnet piece. Then assemble 4 of the 20mm magnet piece to form a single magnet. Then use 6 single pieces to form the 6 magnets.

I going to do the best i can here,but with out all of your sub-assemblies it makes it hard to establish your design intent.

 

In your top level assembly ground your stator.  I would use the Ground and root command from the productivity tab.  Next remove your mate constraint (the bad one).  You are using joints to drive model placement and its probably best to drive it using limits of currently placed joint.  Now, i am assuming the magnets are fixed to the rotor, make a new sub assembly of the rotor (ground and root the rotor when you place in the new assembly) with the magnets attached in the proper orientation.  I would use constraints and not joints to locate the magnets on the rotor.  Replace the rotor in your top level assembly with your newly created subassembly that includes both the rotor and magnets.  Now edit your existing cylindrical joint connections selecting the center-points on axes of both parts then position using the limits tab.  Set your angle and then your linear, I think linear will be 0 start and 0 end and angle probably doesn't matter just enter 90 degrees and adjust if needed.
