Hi Rmeyers,

Well without the part its hard to tell if you have a completely closed loop for the Coil.

(I assume it is based on the photo)

That said if you want to do a solid fill on the coil part, you can project the edges that are open.

In the bottom sketch that you already had started, project the top edge and the bottom most edge.

Since this looks like its 245 -270 deg and doesn't cross over its self, you should be able to extrude "to next".

After that you should have the proper fill.

If you still need help, post the part and I can do screen captures to show you. (or provide the finshed part if you have 2016)

James,

I tried to do what you described but the issue may be that the spiral is not fully enclosed. To create the spiral the axis cannot be connected to the sketch or shape i'm trying to extrude, it give me an error when I try to do this. So essentially I have .005" DIA cyclinder runing through the center of my part. When I try to extrude the donut shape "to nex" to enclose my part I get an error. I"m running out of ideas.

If you are able to create a solid spiral part and upload it that would help me out immensely. i'm currently using 2015 though, not sure if that would be an issue.

thanks,

Yeah the 2016 file can't be opened in 2015.

Let me see if i can get a 2015 version up and running to post an example.

Ok Take a look at the part I made (it's not the prettiest).

But it should convey the idea.

Hopefully this helps,

,

Hi Randal,

Were you able to open the part I made?

( I didn't use your part size as i was just trying to show the idea, If you want i can resize it to match what your Making)

You may need to trim back some of the lines if they intersect a solid.

The edge at the bottom shouldnt be a problem, but the diameter in the center may be self intersecting.

Can you post the error message your getting?

Regards,

James

Thanks James for you help! I was able to figure it out. I turns out I had to make a small cyclinder in the middle to close the shape in order to extrude to next.
