Can Inventor Design Accelerator Create A Tapered Spring?

Hi all.

Just wondering if when I create a spring using the compression spring design accelerator in assembly mode, if it is possible to add a taper to the design? Or, is the only way to create a tapered/conical spring to sketch the profile and use the coil command in part mode?

Cheers,
Sam.

Hi! The short answer is no. I don't believe Design Accelerator can create a tapered spring. This is a very interesting idea. Please feel free to create an idea on Ideas forum.

You will need to develop the curve using equations or 3D helical curve (variable-pitch and variable-radius). Then sweep a circle along the curve to create the spring.

Many thanks!

Do you have an image of what you are trying to create?

You can create something like this in Inventor.  But, the only way to do it is in part mode using the coil command.

You can in assembly is you do a top down part editing it in the assembly.
