Can Inventor 2018 be used with Vault Basic 2017

I seem to remember on earlier releases of Inventor and Vault there being hotfixes that allowed one release to work with a previous release of Vault, or it might have been the other way around and a previous release of Inventor was able to work with a newer release of Vault. In any case, I have a current situation where I am actively using Inventor 2017 with Vault Basic 2017, but also using one installation of Inventor 2018 on a box to allow our legacy Mechanical Desktop files to be converted to Inventor. We are about to upgrade to Vault Pro 2019 and Inventor Pro 2019, but the Inventor 2018 will be kept around for as long as we can keep it supported, or we get all of our old Mechanical Desktop files converted.

Are there any patches that would allow the 2017 Vault to work with the 2018 Inventor, and also a patch to allow the 2018 Inventor to work with the 2019 Vault when it comes online?

I believe it's:

Inventor 2017, can work in Vault 2018,

but Vault 2017, can't work with Inventor 2018.

This AKN article might help too:

Correct.

Rule of thumb...Vault must always lead.

Thus older files can go into a newer release of Vault, but newer files than the release of Vault cannot.

Examples: 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 cad can go into Vault 2019, but 2019, 2018, 2017 cad cannot go into Vault 2016.

Just so there's no confusion..  Inventor 2016 would not work with Vault 2019..  CAD software version can only be the same as Vault version or up to the last 2 legacy versions..

Vault 2018 - would support Inventor 2017-2019

However Vault can maintain numerous legacy versions..  I know of a few 2018 Vaults, that still have Inventor 2012 files in it because they haven't been changed in numerous years..

From earlier:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/vault-products/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/V...

Vault Server 2018 or later, unless otherwise stated, supports connections from clients from the same release; and two releases prior. So;

  1. The Vault 2016 Server supports connections from Vault 2014, Vault 2015* and Vault 2016 Thick clients and Add-Ins.
  2. The Vault 2017 Server supports connections from Vault 2015*, Vault 2016 and Vault 2017 Thick clients and Add-Ins.
  3. The Vault 2018 Server supports connections from Vault 2016, Vault 2017 and Vault 2018 Thick clients and Add-Ins.
  4. The Vault 2019 Server supports connections from Vault 2017, Vault 2018 and Vault 2019 Thick clients and  Add-Ins.
