Can a spline be dimensioned???

I have a simple spline in this part.  We won't have any trouble machining it (at least I'm told we won't).  This honestly is the first time I've ran across this.

How would you document a spline on the idw???  I can grab the width (8mm) and depth (3mm).

As soon as manufacturing got this, I was getting a call; what is the radius??   Of course, you can't answer that with a spline.

How would you document this???

Thanks!

Chris

You might want to export a 3D STP or any file that can be used as direct input for your machine, if possible. Otherwise, you can only do your best in sampling.
A few examples (add points and measure against them, like samples for the curves):

In a drawing I would create a sketch over the spline and put an arc in there, using three points. If the spline looks and feels like an arc - it probably is an arc.

Cheers,

Igor.

Hi! It is almost impossible to recreate the same spline on a different system by giving dimensions and constraints. Depending on the accuracy requirement, you may get really close to the source but it is never precise.

Many thanks!
