Cam Follower With Spring Gear Assembly

Hello,

forum

 

I have to do an assembly but I do not know how to.

This is how it should look like.

What I have is not fully constrained and the spring I got it from grabcad.

I do not know how to design the spring I require

Dimensions are. Spring Dia. 13mm, length 39mm, wire dia. 2mm.

It is a center hook.

 

 

How do I get the spring to change length when it is stretched and how do I assemble them together like the picture above.

Tip:

You can create some work planes axis and points in the spring to help you place the spring with other parts in the assembly.

Hello @Anonymous there are a few ways to go about drawing the spring, but what is the desired intent of the model?

 

The Extension Spring in the Design Accelerator will be more for getting exact results. The forces and stress calculations might be a bit much for what I'm guessing you're trying to do. 

 

Does the spring need to be extending while the gear goes just for looks or are you going to try to do analysis with it?

 

If you want just a visual spring I would go about drawing it a bit differently and using the spring length as the driving factor.

I messed around a bit, like previously stated if you have a parameter map you could create an individual part just for location and lock in your parts in the assembly much easier.

 

 

I would focus on measuring and drawing all of your parts.

 

Once you have them all you can insert them into an assembly and constrain.

 

After that you would go in and set up your custom spring that would be adaptive to the rest of the assembly.

 

If you can get that far it would be easier to show you how to add the spring instead of missing parts and not knowing exactly how it goes together. (the ppt was good to have but a bit misleading).

I do not know what it's called. So I just gave it a name flower as it looks like a flower.

How did you do that in assembly?

I do not know how to set constrains and joins etc.

 

It would be a great help if you could guide me though the process.

 

I would like my assembly to be exactly like yours.

Hello @Anonymous it all depends on how you start the design process.

 

If you have existing pieces and you draw them individually and bring them together in an assembly they might not fit together properly. This was the issue with the gear teeth moving using contact set so I had to fudge to a visual rotational constraint assumption, not best practice.

 

If you take the time to create a base sketch showing all the parts and link all the parts to it, you can ensure proper fitment.

 

I would take the picture you have supplied in the ppt and make this base sketch. This will include the profile of each gear, hole locations that you have specified, and determine clearance, rotational interference, and spring travel length.

 

There are a few modeling techniques you could go about to create the assembly:

 Attached are the assembly and two new files, spring and base path.

I do not know how to resolve the problem of mate flush constrain between the mid plane of camfollower and whole part of flower.

 

I have put the errors I face in the error folder.
