My team has a standard format for parts lists for our DWG files that we make and populate in Excel. Inventor, however, bubbles the parts present in a DWG from the parts list, which comes from the BOM. Currently, we are making our parts lists, using Tools > Paste Special to insert them into the DWG, then having to edit the Item Numbers on on the Inventor Parts List to match the Item Numbers from our standardized parts list. Is there a way to make Inventor use the Excel Sheet that we generate to bubble a drawing?
Not out of the box. You would need some sort of ilogic to search the excel file and update the balloons as needed.
Can you not use Inventors built in parts list to duplicate your standard format?
We've tried that, but we'd end up having to reformat the Inventor parts list in every DWG, so not a huge savings in time relative to using our pre-built Excel format and just changing the item numbers in Excel. I was hoping there was a way to upload the Excel sheet and use it, but it doesn't look possible.

@Anonymous Can you go into more detail about that?
Is that simply maybe because you aren't aware of how to use the style library/template files to save your reformatted parts list properly?
Can you show and example of what your excel parts list looks like and whats special about it?
Hi Andrew,
I agree with Brian. I would like to see an example that Inventor drawingt balloon styles cannot be applied to multiple drawings. It should work just like regular standard and styles workflows. I don't think you need to use an Excel table to create balloons.
Many thanks!
