Blocking the save of a subassemly in a mainassembly, to save time

Hello,

Currently me and my colleague are working with fairly large STEP models, which we converted from an IFC through a 3rd party program.

Everytime we save our main assembly, it takes ages because Inventor has to save the large converted STEP again. Is there a way to block this in the main Assembly? This because the converted .STEP isn't changing but Inventor still has to save it over and over again.

Does it speed things up of you insert the STP file as a reference part?

That way Inventor references your original STEP file which doesn't change, rather than saving it over and over.

Hi! One thing to check is to disable Express mode (Tools -> App Options -> Assembly -> uncheck "Enable Express mode"). When Express mode is turned on, the top-level assembly will aggregate all the graphics from each part and save the graphics within the top-level iam file. It tends to make the iam file big. When you are actively modeling the assembly, the Express mode could interrupt the process. Unless you are done with modeling, I suggest you turn off the option.

Many thanks!
