Best way to move files to a new computer

Just installed inventor on a new laptop and I need to move all my project folders to the new computer.

Whats the best way to do this so that nothing breaks?  Can I just copy and paste the top level folder that houses all the project folders and hope everything works?

It should be as simple as copy and pasting. You'll just want to make sure your projects do not reference anything outside of that folder, if they do you'll want to copy that also.

Templates, style libraries, content center files, and such might be a few things to double check. If you have both computers at the moment it might be good to compare application options between the two also. If it's the same version of Inventor you can export and import both application and customization options.

richardP3ZRB,

Also, don't forget your Default Content Center Files folder.

So everything transferred with the exception of my iparts.  When opening the assemblies that i have i assemlbies or ifactories, the error message comes up and says that the database could not be opened.

Any ideas?

Hi richardP3ZRB,

Do you have MS Excel on this new computer? Inventor used Excel for iParts , so that might be it?

I hope this helps.
