Best way to export Inventor assemblies/parts to MSC Adams

Hi, I am in the process of making parts and assemblies in inventor that I would like to test it's dynamics in MSC Adams. I don't know how to make parts or assemblies in Adams, and figured it would be better to import my work from Inventor. What is the best way to do this?

Hi! Adams is very popular in automotive industry. STEP is the common currency of data exchange. The following fact sheets confirms that it supports STEP.

Inventor has a very robust STEP translator. You can export an assembly or part to STEP. Adams should be able to import it so you can perform dynamic simulation there.

Many thanks!

Is there any extra any input from the user or is it built in? Let me reiterate that question: "Is there anything I have to do before I try to import from within ADAMS application, or is STEP something thats built into the applications, making file translation automated?"

Hi! Most of the professional-grade CAD/CAE systems can import STEP files. I am not familiar with Adams and I cannot comment on specifics. But, I believe it should be able to import STEP files easily. For more detail, please contact MSC. This is Autodesk Inventor forum.

Many thanks!

Based on my experience here with our license of ADAMS, it is preferable to export from Inventor using the parasolid xb option.
