Best practice to model round and square overlapping rebar?

Overlaping circle.jpg

Good day ladies and gentlemen

Does anyone have any suggestions to model an overlapping circular shape or geometrical shape? Where complete length, radius, and overlapping distance can be measures or adjusted independently.

If anyone have any suggestions or advise as to where I may look to find this information, I will greatly appreciate it.

Thank you all and wish you a great day

I would use the coil command.

Is that planar (hard to tell from the image)?

Can you Attach your ipt file here?

Arc_Length parameter(s) are my first thought.

Your image appears to be an overlapping coil.  If you use a 3D sketch, you can create a helix and control diameters, pitches, revolutions, etc. Unfortunately there isn't a parameter for length. You could rename the parameters entered so you know what they are in the parameters dialog box for easy manipulation of coil sizes, but as for getting the length other than measuring the helix (if that is your profile centerline) and placing that value into a custom parameter. But, that is not ideal. Other than that, I'm not certain. Programming might be able to pull the helix length into a parameter for use, but I imagine that others will have a good solution for you.

As @JDMather  mentioned, if it is just planar, using formulas utilizing parameters will get you there.

@blandb

I thought this was added in 2019, but now I can't find it?

I've used the Helical tool, but I do not see where or how can measure of rate specifics in material length, distance of overlapping, etc. Perhaps I am not thinking it as I should, or I may not be thinking enough LOL.

I wanted to see if there were any suggestions or advise in accomplishing what I am looking for.

Thank you all

Are you thinking of the dimension on a spline maybe?

Hi Guys,

Here is a solution using a straight line and 3D wrap-around curve (see attached part). It should work with various dimensions.

Many thanks!
