Best Method for Extracting Images with RT

So now that I've figured out what was wrong with my lighting styles while trying to utilize Ray Tracing in INV2016, I have found that when I try to export an image the way I've done it before (Application Menu > Export > Image), Ray Tracing disables and the image I want is not exported.

So I'd like to ask the community what their thoughts are for the best method when it comes to exporting images with Ray Tracing.

Also, for real close up images, is there a good textured surface to represent Mild Steel? I believe it's just smooth in Inventor and that kind of gives it an almost... plastic appearance. It'd be especially neat if there were a texture that really made it look like steel.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Will,

File>Save Copy as> drop down the 'Save as type' and select an image format (like PNG...), click the 'Options' button and in the 'Image Save Options' dialog box set only one dimension as you need (Inventor will calculate the other one, depending on the appearance and size of image in your environment) - for example, an HD image 16:9 format is 1920 x 1080 pixels. Inventor will then generate and save an off-screen image with RT applied, as you wish.

As for “Good textured surface”, you might need to create one using the Generic template, or modify an existing one – I use a modified version of ‘Galvanised’ for my Zintec sheet metal parts.

Daniel,

Thank you for your reply. That works for me! I've used Save Copy As here and there but never to export images. But that works for me.

I played around with one of the stock bumpmaps that is used for metal in Inventor. Tweaked the scale and intensity of the bumps and came up with a result that I think will work just fine for me.

Nevertheless, thank you very much for the reply.
