Bending a bent part

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how I could make the attached file in Sheet Metal?

I cannot seem to figure it out how to bend a part that is already bent.

Kind regards,

Arthur

The problem is that Inventor Sheet metal can't bend non-straight sheets. Here's a quick attempt to create the shape you're after (also see attached IPT (Inventor 2023.2), but as you can see there will be a "rip" in the sheet.

Possibly you could achieve the shape with the Punch tool on a piece of sheet metal. The Punch tool has a fairly steep learning curve though (IMHO, I struggled a lot with it a year ago), so maybe it's not worth the effort.

Hi @EdvinTailwind, thanks for the reply.

That's indeed what I found as well.

I looked up the punch tool and it looks like very interesting, but as you said a bit too much effort for this particular piece.

Your part is modeled incorrectly.

The end is not perpendicular to the flat.

The sheet is not 7mm thick...

Use Sheet Metal tools for this design.

Back in a few minutes...

Hi

What exactly do you want to achieve?
What is the purpose of this file?
Why do you need to convert it to sheet metal?

I see several possible solutions, but I need to know the exact purpose of the geometry to show you the optimal one.

P.S.
1. You click as much as the geometry requires. Writing that you do not want to model will not motivate others to help. If you don't want it, why should others want it for you?
2. The rounding is done incorrectly. Outer radius = inner radius + thickness. With you they are equal; this is an error that will cause problems at a later stage of modeling, and finally in production.

Is the 400mm what you really want?

See Attached file...

You might want to change the Unroll Method...

Edit: I just noticed your R50 (R43 Bend Radius).

Post back if you can't figure it out from my example. (Don't look till you have tried.)

Here you have a sheet metal part, made based on your dimension and fully parameterized.
This means that if you change the dimensions on the main (first two) sketches, the whole structure will change.
