So I am trying to get the most of Inventor Home screen.
The top screen shot is my home screen with useless basic templates screen slid over.
And revealed the "Advanced Templates" option with an empty screen and "No Folder Selected".
The bottom screen shot I borrowed from another post that shows the folder pathed in.
I never want the basic - I want the advanced option.
My question is "Where in the Inventor options World" is this pathed in.
In the options menu on the file tab I have my templates path.
%PUBLICDOCUMENTS%\Autodesk\Inventor %RELEASE%\Templates\
Advanced Template is not an option

I too have never used this home screen advanced portion. Wouldn't mind using it except every time I vest time into trying to figure out how to get my custom templates into it, I come up empty. I have the correct path in the application options under the file tab set correctly. That is what gives me the ability to select "New" and choose the templates there. I also have it pathed correctly in the project file under folder options>templates.
So, the million dollar question as posted in the OP, how does one get the custom templates in to this portion of the home screen?

Scott, it looks as if you have everything set correctly. As far as I know, the Home screen templates section simply shows what the current template path is set to, and on my system it works that way. I routinely start new files by double clicking on the template I choose in the Advanced pane.

@ray_m Assuming that you have the Folder Options..Templates location in your project file set to default then the location to set that path is accessible via Tools...Application Options..File Tab.. Put in a location in the "Default Templates" field right under the "Configure Default Templates" button..
Or you would simply modify the Folder Options..Templates location in your project file settings.
If there are no templates in the location you specified then you will get a blank screen as you have..
You may need to restart Inventor after making the change.
Make sure you are editing the active project file too..
If you have ensured that you have both of those locations/settings (project file and file tab of the application options) pointed to a correctly mapped folder that includes valid Inventor template files and still nothing is showing then you may have a corrupt user profile and may want to try running the Inventor Reset Utility.
Sam,
I do. As you can see from the screen shots below, they are set correctly. Basically the same way I have been setting them up for years. Even before the advanced area in the home screen was an option. I just figured there was another check box or something elsewhere I was missing. While having them in the home screen would be handy, not the end of the world as it works well and has for years selecting the "New" button. I would just like to know what is missing.

So it seems that this issue has been reported a few times over the last few years with no resolution that I really found..
Seems some users had some luck when they removed some empty or just too many folders from the template location..
Try copying the entire folder to create a backup and then remove ALL folders and all files but leave one ipt template.. Restart Inventor.. Does it show that template there now?
if so try copying items back in one at a time till it pukes again..
When I started looking at this just yesterday, the folder options was actually set to "Default" prior. I changed it in hopes (again) of getting this advanced folder in the home screen to work. Truth being told, I have been trying this for about 4 years going back to 2017.
As far as the project workspace, that is set to the folder location where the project file resides.

Great!!! Love these unresolved some have the luck and some don't type of topics!!! 😋
Just to be clear, remove all of what folders? Every folder in my work space? except the templates folder and leave just one template file in it so see if it is successful?
Would the fact that this is a vaulted project file have anything to do with this working or not working?

(backup first..) Remove all folders and files (except one standard.ipt or something) in the C:\Vault\ERS-W\WBS\Inventor\Templates folder.. Then see if that single template shows up in the advanced section.
And then do as suggested above and set the folder options/template location in your project file to "use default location" vs redefining the same folder you already have in application options to see if maybe thats the issue..
And mine is a vaulted project file and its working just fine..
@Cadmanto Ok I was able to "break it" (nothing showing in advanced home tab template section) when I had an empty folder inside the template file location.
As soon as I put a template file into that empty folder and restarted Inventor then the advanced section populated correctly..
Then I went back and removed the template file thus creating an empty folder and voila.. advanced section said "No Template Directory Found"..
So you either have an empty folder in your template file location or there is some other "check" that Inventor is doing and puking on something specific to your folder/files when it fails.. Just need to go through your files/folders one by one until the failure reason is found and updated this for johnson to add to the invgen bug list..
@johnsonshiue BUG FOUND... Please report..
That worked. Backing up first of course, then deleting everything in it except one template file and changing my folder options in the project file to "Default" now shows the template file in the advanced home screen. I have since copied a second and then restarted Inventor and now it shows up. This is a delicate process. Not hard, but everything needs to be set just right. Like a lot of things in most softwares. Thank you!!!
@mcgyvr to your last post, I wonder (yet haven't proven yet) if having sub folders within this templates folder is what is causing Inventor to trip. Yet, the sub folders will show up when you select the "New" button. I am going to check it out and report back. Ok, reporting back. Sub folder copied into this templates directory and Inventor restarted, all shows up in the advanced home screen. I have no answers as to why it took this screwy process to get it to work.

@ray_m Good things take time!!! 😉
@mcgyvr One thing I noticed and found interesting, if I select my drawing template from Advanced in the home screen and go to place a view, it loses the connection to the model the drawing is for. I have to go back to the model to re-establish the connection. If I select the new button in the ribbon and choose the drawing template there, it does remember the connection and I am able to place base views of that model.
