could we do turning simulation in Autodesk Inventor 2016 like a metal chip removal, and determine the magnitude of residual stress?

Welcome to the forum ....

I'm not familiar with HSM .... but check it out ..

I'm sure a few others will jump in and help that are familiar with it

Michael is right. Hier you can download the 30 days trail version of Inventor HSM or Inventor HSM Pro.

These are the CAM tools from Autodesk within Inventor that includes Turning.

At the moment there is no simulation for residual stress.

But you can simulate the toolpaths for colision detection.

Not in Inventor Professional, I've never seen it done in Simulation Mechanical either. I'm sure that the tool manufactures that produce the insert bits and holders would have that data available as so much of it is dependant on the bit geometry and feed rates.

You can to turning with HSM within Inventor. The problem is it will only feed at rates specified by the tooling manufactures. There is no FEA to determine forces of the toolbit/workpiece interface.

Honestly, I don't know of ANY software that can do what you're asking.  There are just too many variables involved.  You'd almost certainly wind up having to get some serious custom programming stuff done.

You might try contacting the United States Cutting Tool Institute (or local equivalent) to see what their members use for this purpose.  See http://www.uscti.com/

Your local university with active research in manufacturing technology might have a professor or grad student that can provide you some leads for any commercially available software.

Google has a few listings under "metal cutting simulation software" and "finite element analysis of metal cutting".
