Autodesk Inventor 2021 hangs when Open or Place from Vault

I wasn't sure which forum to place this issue.

I installed Inventor 2021 and Vault Workgroup 2021 a week ago.  Migrated my data from Vault 2019 and was using it for most of the last week without incident.  Been able to create new vault items as well as access older elements, update and re check in.

Today, I tried to add an item from Vault into an existing Assembly, and Inventor's UI hung.  I could still rotate and zoom the model on-screen, but none of the menu items work.  Waited a dozen minutes and tried alt-tab to make sure it didn't simply pop up an off-screen dialog (None visible).  No effect.

Vault Workgroup Server is on a separate PC on the same network.  It's accessible and I'm logged into Vault in Inventor.

If I force-close Inventor and reopen, I can click the Vault button in Inventor, and it launches Vault.  If I try to open or place anything from Vault while in Inventor, or inversely, if I select an item from Vault itself and try to open, Inventor just hangs.  I don't seem to have any issues in Inventor until I try to do something that accesses files from Vault.

I tried rebooting.  I tried shut-down and restarted.  I tried Inventor Reset.  None seem to have any effect.

I have Build 183, Release 2021.0.1 installed 5/5/2020

It seems like it IS a Dialog box issue.  Select File from Vault dialog doesn't show as a separate window from Inventor.  So typing Alt-Tab shows nothing.  After digging around, I thought to try Shift-Windows Key + Right Arrow and the dialog came up front.

Is there a setting to change the behavior of dialog windows?

I tried following these directions and it seems to help sometimes.. but not always.

In a few cases, moving Inventor to a different screen seems to kick it back working without exposing the dialog.. In a few others, it brought the dialog forward and I was able to work through it.

Looking to check/modify the dialog registry locations, they differ drastically from what's shown in that KB

The closest I can find is attached below.  But I'm not sure which value translates with each dialog..

Hi! I am not aware of the issue. Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and update graphics driver. If nothing helps, I would try using Inventor Reset Utility (All Programs -> Autodesk -> Inventor 2021 -> Tools) to reset all settings back to install default. Please note that all custom settings will be reset.

Many thanks!

I tried Inventor Reset as one of the first few tests.  It didn't fix the issue.

I've tried using HP's Zbook drivers direct from their site as well as the latest OEM Nvidia and OEM Intel drivers (The laptop has both Nvidia Quattro P3000 and Intel Graphics 670 chips installed)

All Windows updates are installed.

Hi! Do you access Vault through VPN? If you open directly in Inventor, does it hang too?

Many thanks!

Right now, I'm in the same office/network as my Vault Server.  But we do have a Corporate VPN I use when I'm home.

When I click the Vault button in Inventor, Vault opens no problem.  It's just when I try to place or open a Vault file from within Inventor;  the Select File from Vault window (and several others I haven't identified) doesn't spawn as a separate process, so unless it's in front to begin with, it's inaccessible, and that makes Inventor appear as hung.

I've been able to get some of these dialogs to be visible using Shift-Windows Key- Right Arrow.  But not all of them.  A few dealing with Check out or update properties after opening a Vault file, I can't seem to bring forward but seem to "go away" if I press Y or enter.

A few more dialogs were exposed this way:  When Inventor froze, open Task Manager and expand the listing for Autodesk Inventor.  Occasionally they would appear there as a subprocess under Inventor, and I could right click "File Edit" and select Maximize.  It would go full-screen but I would be able to click through it.  Choosing the other available options like "Bring to Front" did nothing at all.  Similar thing happened a few times for Update Properties dialog, but that seems to "clear" itself when I try to Windows key-Alt to bring it to the front.

I tried to catch this with ScreenCast.  But a watched pot never boils.  And when the camera was on, I could not reproduce this behavior.  I can post that video.. But it's roughly 20 minutes of nothing happening, with a few force closing Inventor to try different methods to reproduce the issue..

I was able to capture the Update properties behavior.  It briefly pops up between 55s and 1.00

@lena.talkhinaCouldn't figure out how to modify the original post to add pics.  Not much to see anyways.   Here's one example of a window I can see in Alt-Tab but can't bring to front.  But if I select it with alt-tab then hit Enter, this one allows me to pass.

You have only 30 minutes to do so. But it's completely fine to add anything in a reply.

Thank you for the update! I hope our Inventor folks will find time to suggest a solution here.

This window sometimes comes up in the background.  Unlike the other window, it doesn't show up in Alt-Tab.  But I'm able to bring it to front with Shift-Windows Key-Right Arrow.

Hi! I was told that this issue (PDM-28118) should have been addressed in Vault 2021.1 update. Please make sure the Vault update is installed.

Many thanks!

We just wiped and reinstalled everything as part of a move away from Corporate.  I'll let you know if it comes up again.  I do have all the updates running currently.
