Autodesk, are you sure this dialog box is a yes/no question?

Autodesk, are you sure this dialog box is a yes/no question?

Dragging and dropping a file (.idw in this case), gives me the following dialog box:inv1.jpg

And this is not a yes/no question... I've seen this some other places too, but I don't remember where/when right now.

If I choose to open through the open-dialog, I get this dialog box:

inv2.jpg

Which I guess is the corrected version of the dialog box.

(Inventor 2017, might be fixed in a later verision?)

This is mainly a peer to peer network and not really Autodesk..  Smiley LOL

First you should never be dragging Inventor files into Vault since it could destroy the relationship (parent to child relationship).

In the end it sounds like you don't have a properly configured Inventor/Vault project file.

Update:  The first prompt you shared, yes I would agree its not really a yes/no but the 2nd is..  Meaning do you want to open it (yes) for the current location or no (I don't want too).  If you want to make changes post your idea over at the Inventor Idea forum https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/idb-p/v1232 and have people vote on it.  If you do post there..  Share a link in this posting so others can locate it.

Thanks. I wasn't sure where to post this. Is there a better place somewhere?

I dragged the file into inventor, not Vault.

And these files were from a different project, just to compare something. I don't get this error when opening "normal" files.

I agree with mark on the dragging and dropping.  You are just asking for trouble as per the error messages you are getting.

When you say they are coming from a different project, are you using the term loosely meaning a different internal project, or a different project file?  Some users use a project file for each internal project they work on.  I personally thinks this gets too confusing and prefer to work from one project file.

My suggestion instead of dragging and dropping the file, do a pack and go from the one folder to another.

I agree as well that the first message is not really a "yes/no" question, but it does drive the pint home on the seriousness of what that current state is.

The forum you posted in is fine.  The idea station is nothing more then a venue to post ideas for improvements to the software.

Hello @Anonymous

Thanks for highlighting this aspect of the software, that's a good catch.

I agree with you that the first message should be something else than a "yes/no" dialog.

@Mark.Lancaster and @Cadmanto mentioned our Inventor Idea Station, that's a good place to post a software improvement request.

Please let us know if you need additional help on that.

Thanks

@Sergio.Bertino Is this really something that should be put into the ideastation?.. That seems absolutely silly for something like this.

I'm quite positive that virtually all users of this software will agree that this is something that should be addressed in the software at sometime or another.

This is very clearly a message box where the selections do not fit the message..

If we find typos do we need to post an ideastation request to fix the typos?

This is what a "Just do it"... team should be doing..

To put this into the ideastation is just a waste of aleksanders time as I'm quite positive most users won't even take the time of day to vote/kudo it up and it would probably just get archived and lost and never addressed.

Yes its absolutely low hanging fruit.... But still..

In my opinion, why not just skip the idea station.  Why waste the voting process for something that would appear to be a slam dunk needing to be changed.  Sergio, you obviously work for Autodesk, can't you put these wheels into motion to have this changed?  Seems silly to me to go through the idea station process for something like this.
