In a way I would agree. But, it appears that the content is already there. And to add, it would appear that may have already used this content and trust it. Matt

From what I can tell, I would guess 100%. fxlxd wrote: >define 'key components' >25% 50% all of it??? >regards >Frans X Liebenberg > >

The Mechsoft acquisition is going to be a big plus in my opinion. If there is a downside to Mechsoft it is that it is very powerful, and therefore has a bit of a learning curve. I think once people get past that they are going to be amazed at what it is capable of. Also there is a few things IMO missing from the bolted connection library, but you are able to add you own parts to the wizard. I think there is something in it that will help almost every type of designer. 8^) -- Kent Keller http://www.KWiKMcad.com (Please update your links) Assistant Moderator Autodesk Discussion Forum Moderator Program "cbliss" wrote in message news:403e0bde$1_3@newsprd01... > > It goes without saying that I am excited about this acquisition and that I and others I know have been using it. It it my belief that Mechsoft is fully baked and it is my hope that since Autodesk now has some full solutions to some of the features it needs, will be able to redirect some of the resources to fixing or completing the other shortcomings. Only time will tell.

Ditto. This is a great step forward. I think we need to encourage Autodesk on this addition to the stable. There are certainly things for which we have chastised ADSK in the past (you all know I'm not the quiet one) but let's save that for another thread. I asked Brad to post here, since there were multiple requests for a response from Autodesk marketing. Being a marketing guy, he can't resist using phrases like "key components". Since I actually talked to him, I will try a marketing to engineering translation. The plan is to integrate the functionality that you see in MechSoft into AIS. "marketing to engineering translation." is that entirely possible? or does a project manager need to stand in the middle to translate from the marking guy, to the engineer? > marketing to engineering translation. > Monitor wipes! Seriously, thanks for the clarification. I know that when you guys post here, you tend to get beat up for things that aren't your doing, and bombarded with questions you're not allowed to answer. Those that brave the storm and post anyway are appreciated. Walt

I have always been told that engineers are odd ducks, but I didn't know that we needed a translator. I guess I need to put "One Translator" in next years budget.

All kidding aside, Autodesk does deserve a job well done. I was looking at this package as a possibility for next years budget.

Oh give me a break we AREN'T the ones that need a xlator is is the marketing guys!

Loren is a real good guy with luckily for us a thick skin. His contributions to IV run deep and we're fortunate he is at Autodesk. He worked in the industry and knows what WE need CAD to do. He's also been exposed to enough marketing guys he's starting to pick up some of their language LOL!

Haven't worked with the MechSoft technology before, but looking at the demos in the FAQ from the link, looks great. One question, and it's probably something that others would ask - is it possible to add user parameters to the MechSoft library tables so that company standard part numbers (and other custom properties) would be automatically generated when a part is chosen? Also custom materials? Or perhaps can you leave the existing set alone and create new categories of parts with custom properties?

It's wonderful when there's a tool to automate this kind of process but if it can't be adapted to corporate standards, it ends up not being very useful to those of us locked into the tyranny of said standards...(to the sound of ball and chain dragging behind...)

Yes, the library is extensible. I am not sure about materials but I would guess it is based on other aspects of the tool. It can also batch load parts and make normal parts act like iParts.
