Charles and Sean know what they are talking about. The MechSoft technology will be in AIS. If you are speculating or guessing, or heard it from someone else, then you/they are wrong. Anyone on AIS subscription has good reason to be happy about this announcement. The real question is "When will it be applied to Inventor", there may be some time left to get some of the core of it in R9 but I doubt it. R10 most likely.

Maybe it'll be a mid year release for subscrition customers, much like the first vault. It's only speculation after all "MDB" wrote in message news:30627258.1077723139281.JavaMail.jive@jiveforum2.autodesk.com... > The real question is "When will it be applied to Inventor", there may be some time left to get some of the core of it in R9 but I doubt it. It should be noted that Dan was at NDES for the announcement. Dan Sponholz wrote: >Charles and Sean know what they are talking about. The MechSoft technology >will be in AIS. Given the huge and ongoing hit in customer confidence and trust that Autodesk brought down on themselves with the Pro debacle, it's not surprising that some would assume the worst. After all, wasn't the justification for charging extra for Pro that they had bought the technology, and needed to recoup their investment? Now they've 'acquired' Mechsoft.... But the sources that say Mechsoft will be in AIS are reliable. Mechsoft itself is head-and-shoulders above they typical new (we'll finish it later) Inventor feature. It's a full-blown and very powerful package. If this is Autodesk's way of holding out an olive branch to it's badly bruised AIS customers, I've got to give them an A for effort. Walt

Will the gear calculator be included? Can MechSoft specify plastic materials for gears? I recently tried it and couldn't find any plastic materials for gear design calculations. I really wonder if it will be included - if you look at the promo's of the plate calc. wizard and the calc. assistant appear to be in regular IV - but the promo's for drag & drop and bolted connection have title border of Inventor 8 Pro.

This doesn't mean anything. If it goes into vanilla IV then it will be available in Pro as well. -- Sean Dotson, PE Autodesk Inventor Certified Expert http://www.sdotson.com Check the Inventor FAQ for most common questions www.sdotson.com/faq.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- "Rob_P" wrote in message news:32713430.1077725684708.JavaMail.jive@jiveforum2.autodesk.com... > I really wonder if it will be included - if you look at the promo's of the plate calc. wizard and the calc. assistant appear to be in regular IV - but the promo's for drag & drop and bolted connection have title border of Inventor 8 Pro. > Just my $.02 > Rob

How come no one from ADESK is jumping in and putting this to rest? "Dan Sponholz" wrote in message news:403cbd31$1_3@newsprd01... > Charles and Sean know what they are talking about. I don't know if marketing guys follow the NGs. The development team probably don't know what the marketing guys will do this time to upset all their users... ADSK has stated it clearly. Read the press release. It says AIS (not AIP). Charles and I can attest to that fact as well as Dan who spoke with ADSK employees at NEDS just yesterday. -- Sean Dotson, PE Autodesk Inventor Certified Expert http://www.sdotson.com Check the Inventor FAQ for most common questions www.sdotson.com/faq.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- "MikeC" wrote in message news:403ccabf_1@newsprd01... > How come no one from ADESK is jumping in and putting this to rest? > > "Dan Sponholz" wrote in message > news:403cbd31$1_3@newsprd01... > > Charles and Sean know what they are talking about. I read the press release. But if people are having doubts in this NG, what's the harm in someone from ADESK confirming this. Nothing. This is just a peer-to-peer NG. Some ADSK employees do answer questions here but it is not a Autodesk to customer information channel. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for something like this. Guys, What is so hard to understand about the fact that what AIS gets AIP gets by default? When this capability is available in AIS, it will also be available in AIP. -- Autodesk, Inc 7995 SW Mohawk Tualatin, OR 97062 503-692-8339 gary.r.smith@autodesk.com

Also, I believe the "context" for the comment regarding exclusive availability vis-a-vis AIS was intended to indicate it will be Autodesk exclusive from here forward.
