Auto Inventor PDF to an AutoCad Drawing

How do we go from Auto Inventor PDF to an AutoCad Drawing with your
product? DWG I believe. We need to be able to send a drawing to a
machine shop.

Thank you.

Are you asking about converting an Inventor drawing to an AutoCAD DWG, or converting a PDF to a DWG?

Yes we have several drawings that need converting so a machine shop can cut out our pieces.

Open the original idw file in Inventor (NOT THE PDF) and simply do a "save copy as" and select "Autocad dwg" as the file extension..

You do not convert the PDF to DWG (well you can but its not the right way to proceed)

I have tried this. The problem is that these sheet metal parts when you do
a save as to a DWG file format generate AutoCAD drawing that when I try and
open in AutoCAD, I can see the paperspace but not the model space which is
what I need. I have tried the Export function in Inventor as well with no
luck. The problem is not generating Autodesk DWG files off PDFs, it is
generating DWG files off Inventor that have a model space and not just
paper space. The versions I am using are Autodesk Inventor Professional
version 2013 and Autodesk AutoCAD version 2013.

If they are willing to try and do the conversion for us, I can send
Autodesk Inventor files for the parts for the drawings we need converting.

You simply need to adjust your options for saving autocad drawings..

Before pressing save hit the "options" button right next to it and modify the configuration..

Of just so a File>Export>DXF

This will but your Inventor IDW file into a flat DXF file that your supplier can open.

Then you didn't do something right..

It does work..

And please be a bit more specific.. What exactly didn't work? Did it still put all the geometry into paperspace?

Correction:

File > Export > Export to DWG > change the "Save as type" option from Inventor Drawing Files (*.dwg) to AutoCAD DWG Files (*.dwg). Then in the "Options..." box, make sure you set the "File Version" to a year that your machine shop can open.

Side topic since @mcgyvr and @blair are assisting you..

Noticed your signature is related to a high school...

Are you using the free Autodesk educational software for your school and that was used to make this part?

If so is this machine shop something at school or are you contracting a machine shop elsewhere to make this part?

If this is an outside vendor are you paying them to make this design?
