Assembly Length in BOM

I am using Inventor Pro 2018.  We are upgrading to 2019 in a few weeks but that should not affect anything.  I am creating a drawing with a BOM and want to show a length of piano hinge assembly.  The piano hinge is made up of two parts so it can actually hinge in the assembly.  I cannot get the length of it to show up in the BOM without overriding it in the BOM itself.

I tried exporting the length from one of the parts then linking it in as a parameter in the assembly to no avail.  My other idea was to put a dummy sketch in the assembly and use that parameter.  That seems to work at first but it reverts back to Qty: each.  I will go into the Document Settings - Bill of Materials - find my length parameter - click OK - click Apply.  It all looks good until I go back into the Document settings and it is back to a quantity of Each.  The BOM structure is set to Purchased.  It doesn't seem to make a difference if I change it to Inseperable.

This seems like it would be something fairly straight forward.  Am I missing something or is this not possible?

Thanks,

CWW

In the assembly Parameters link the part with the exported dimension. And then export it from there for drawing.

I did that as you can see in the first picture.  The second picture is where I change the BOM base quantity.  The third picture is when I go right back into the Document Settings.  It reverts back to Each.  I hope this isn't to cluttered and makes sense.

I have it linked correctly now.  I can see my value in the Custom tab in iProperties.  Is there another step?  I can find and select my length in the Bill of Materials tab in Document settings.  It just reverts back to "each" each time.  Do I need to do anything special in the drawing.

I am leaving for the day shortly so I will get back at this Monday.
