Assembly & Sub-Assembly - Reference Parts Issue

I've read a few threads & other info on this & it's clear that I need a bit of expert help with this (as I can't seem to process the rules).

 

The issue:

I have a number of OEM derived assembly files containing 2 or more parts.  The individual parts are irrelevant to my work (assemblies into which the OEM files are inserted as a Purchased item). In the BOM structure under "Parts

Only", I don't want to see the individual parts making up the OEM items (where they are assembly files).

 

The problem here is that in a drawing, the OEM parts are either shown dashed or are not visible (for some odd reason - I can enable visibility but there are hundreds of instances in the assembly/sub-assembly structure).

 

To clarify the build, the OEM assembly file is used in a Level 1 assembly, which in turn is used in a Level 2 assembly, which in turn.......is repeated to Level 5.

 

The question:

How should I structure things.  Ideally, I want the OEM item to be listed under "Parts Only" in every one of the assemblies from Level 1 to Level 5.

 

It should be noted that the OEM assemblies are iAssemblies.

Hi,

I do not understand your query exactly. But have you tried declaring customers assembly as "Purchased" in BOM under Model data.

For example I am sharing below two images.

Please check in first Image I declared  RLK_110_6_x_14 assembly as a purchased Item under Model data rab

Now it showing only assembly and not child parts as shown below under part tab

Open the OEM assembly.

In document settings, BOM, set it to "Purchased".

Thanks for the replies.

I think there are two issues & the second (not so obvious) is causing the confusion.

 

Setting the OEM assembly to "Purchased" (Tools>Document Setting>Bill of Materials) & then any parts within that assembly to "Normal" (right click in Assembly Tree>BOM Structure) sorted one of the issues.

 

The other is a little more complex.  I've attached some screen grabs which demonstrate the issue:

Some elements have visibility turned off by default.  It's fairly easy to enable visibility on the root assembly file for the example above, but for large complex assemblies, it can take minutes.  However I can't seem to find anything in the sub-files that would set visibility to ON by default.

 

I think the issue has something to do with the quality of the original OEM part files.  In the above example, all items are conversion from OEM IGS files.  The item at the bottom seems fine & behaves as expected.  But the items  middle & top do not (despite the top one being from the same OEM as the bottom).

Problem is the parts are not solid, they're surface.

Drawing by default don't include surface.

You can turn it on:

Hi,

Have you tried level of details option in assembly. This option available in Assembly model tree under Representation command. In this option we can define our different level of details and suppress different parts which we do not want to show in assembly drawing while creating drawing view. Please check if it solve your problem.

Hi! Although Level of Detail can help include or exclude components. The BOM table remains unchanged. If you want to use one assembly to represent multiple variations by including or excluding certain components, the best approach is to use Design View Rep and hide unwanted component in each Rep. Then on the drawing sheets, create drawing views linked to the Design View Rep and create PartsList with Design View Rep filter applied.
