angle constraints on a fan door

Can any one tell me how to apply angle constraints to the the 12 'lolly sticks' of 5, 10, 15, 20 ect degrees so that they are all either in position or housed in the dorrway? zipped iam file attached.

Hi! This should be fairly straight forward, though a bit tedious. You first need to have Mate constraint between neighboring panels. Then create angular constraint between panels. The angular offset value can be a parameter to drive, so that the fan can open or close.

So far i've mate constrained the inncer circular face of each panel to the spindle face which holds them all in place and the mate constrained the adjacent faces of each one to the next. As a result there are all held in place and moving in the right right. So now comes the angle contsraint yes? I'm afraid I can't visualise how 2 panels could share an angular constraint and still both move? I was expecting to create angluar constraints between each relevant panel edge and the inside of the door frame. angular offset will be different for each panel increasing in 5 deg increments from 5 to 60 degs.

Finally, will I be able to animate the movement so that the lowest startsfirst and the hightest last so as to mimick the movement of a real fan?

Hi! It is a bit tedious in this case but it is highly doable. Please take a look at attached file. I just Angular constraints and Insert constraints to lock the fan pieces. The artifact pieces are attached using Rigid Joints.

You can change parameter "d22" to see the fan open and close. Or, use Form1 in iLogic to slide.

This is certainly very helpful to me and I would like to continue work on the file you have sent as there are another 2 identical doors either side of the one you have already woked on. Some more questions though I'm afraid to help me move forward with this.

1. All the panels are locked together 5 degs out from their required closed position and also currently all move as a single object. Will changing the d22 value to a new value relevant to each panel help me fix this and create a separate movement for each panel of 5, 10, 15, 20 degs and so on so that they can all slot into the upper side of the triangle doorway? (nb: the edge of which still needs to be removed as it will currently coexist with the panels in their 'door fully open position')

2. can you list the appropriate steps please required to change the d22 value (my inventor skills are still basic)

3. Can you list the stpes required also to add the rigid joint command required for each window section to it's appropriate panel.

Hi! I don't think I fully understand your requests. The file I attached was just an example how things can work. I intentionally made d22 the driving parameter to all angular constraints. You can change it easily by going to Parameters table and find the parameters associated with the angular constraints. You will see they are all equated to "d22" at the moment. You can change them to anything you like, so that "d22" will not drive other angular constraints.

I strongly suggest you go through the basic tutorials in Inventor (Get Started -> Tutorial Gallery). Inventor is a professional tool. It does take some time to learn and use. You need to understand the basics before you can start designing. It sounds like you jump several steps ahead by doing it. It can be considered a way of learning.

The issue with this approach is that you may not understand the reason behind things and the concept you draw may not be scalable.
