All files/locations disappearing while using the in-program file explorer window

Wondering if anyone has experience anything similar or has found a solution to this issue.

When I am working in a network project folder and go to use any command that opens up the file explorer window, i.e., save as, open, replace, it occasionally decides to superficially wipe my computer of all files and locations. Nothing is displayed in the window even if I know the assembly is located there. I can navigate up through my folders to 'This PC' and everything is gone/not displayed. As a result, I can't navigate back down to the folder that I originally started in. Once things start disappearing, my session is permanently stuck this way until I fully restart my computer.

It never happens the first time after starting a new session, but if I am doing a lot of save/open heavy tasks, it eventually triggers after the 5-6th time. It also seems to affect the Windows file explorer as well, eventually causing slow downs if I leave inventor in the broken state and keep running the program without a restart.

This does not affect any actual files/file locations. It solely affects visibility in the explorer window.

The save function continues to work if I want to save to the folder it opens to. But I cannot navigate to any other locations.

We are on Windows 11 Pro, running Inventor Professional 2023.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Cheers

Hi! Please make sure all critical Windows and Office updates are installed. Are file extensions (.ipt, .iam, .idw/dwg) hidden?

Many thanks!

Both windows and office are up to date. All the file extensions you listed are hidden, along with every other file extension, folders and drives.

Hi! Try unhide the file extensions. And run Inventor as Admin (right-click on Inventor desktop icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> check "Run as Admin").

Many thanks!
