Adjust Option in Rectangular Pattern

In this video adjust option is selected from Rectangular Pattern dialog box. No explanation is given for that. Could you please explain the reason?

You can help yourself instead of running to the forum every time you don't understand someone's workflow in a video.

On that dialog is a button with a question mark.  Select it and it will take you to the related section in the help file.  From there you would see this:

Adjust. Creates potentially differing copies of selected features by mirroring features and calculating extents or terminations of each mirror occurrence individually. Computation time can be lengthy for patterns with large numbers of occurrences. Preserves design intent by allowing mirror occurrences to adjust based on feature extent or termination conditions, such as a mirrored feature that terminates on a model face. Not available for mirrors of solid part bodies in an open or surface state.

Hi fiatnm,

This can be hard to see, as it is only clear with certain geometry.  Here's an example of a Hole that use the Through All option, and the Adjust option for the pattern.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

So Adjust Option is merely use for extension (in your example it is used to extend the features).

That is not really a good understanding of the tool.

Without adjust - a certain volume is subtracted in the seed feature.  The Pattern subtracts duplication of the the seed feature (to save computational resources), but that might not be the design intent over changing geometry.  The Adjust does not attempt to save computational resources and follows the seed creation instructions.

Hi fiatnm,

In my example it extended the termination, but I think it can be different in other instances. But I'm not able to think of an example at the moment.

I hope this helps.
