the process i used in 2023 does not work for 2024 nor 2025. anyone else having this problem?

Manage / Editor / Rt. Click on a Family / Material Guide:

i used to just accept all the defaults and the material would show as an option on this dialog box:

I never add new materials this way, I physically add them via the family table in excel. So, I'm not sure if there is a bug there or not. When you add the key, do they appear as expected?

I don't add them using the table. i've not thought of using the excel option but that doesn't always work in the manner intended for other edits i have done.

Not sure I understand what you mean there as the excel option is an exact replica of the family table just in excel format. You must pay attention to what columns have formulas. Blue columns are driven by the family table expressions, black columns are static values. Those transfer over to excel but the formulas don't. Simply put, don't edit blue columns in excel only black ones. When you save the excel format it will update the family table and all expressions will then populate.
