3DA Object defaults in style editor

I do not have any of the 3DA object defaults in styles library. I just install 2019 and the are not there. They are under the standard but not the Object Default. That is the only place you can customize them to your company standards. Can someone help me?

Those 3DA styles are for parts and assemblies and not drawings.    Its the styles used for 3D model base definitions and have nothing to do with drawing styles.   Meaning I've never seen them in a drawing styles editor.

In 2018 you had to go to the style editor to customize all the 3DA under the object defaults.

I understand the styles are for parts and assemblies but the .idw is where you had to customize the 3DA. It took me a little while to find it but it actually worked in the part. I found it online: Configuration of Model-Based Definition in Inventor 2018. And it worked perfectly. My coworkers have not migrated to 2019 yet and they have customized their 3DA styles in the style editor.

Since I have migrated to 2019  all 3DA are no longer under the object defaults and I can not customize them.

Sorry I was thinking of the 3DA note/sketch style at the part/assembly level..

Granted I never did any in-depth 3DA styles but obj def just sets the standard style per the annotation you're applying.  If you want to change the actual style itself you go to that annotation..    Meaning did obj def ever showed the 3DA style?   It shows under the obj def tab of the overall style.

Update:  I just opened Inventor 2018 and I see the same thing as I did in Inventor 2020.    Meaning there's no obj def for 3DA.   Like I said they are located under the obj def of the overall style.

In 2018 all the 3DA styles were under the object Defaults so that they could be customized.

In 2019 the 3DA styles are only under the Standards not under the object defaults and they cannot be customized.

Even if you go to the style library manager for 2019 and click on Object defaults you will see all of the 3DA Styles. But they did not migrate to my actual style Editor.

I have even tried to create a new project folder and redirected to try to migrate them manually nothing is working.

Wants you upgrade to 2019 then you lose it and do not get it back.

Which is customized and works in the part file.

Not sure what if you saw my updated posting but I'm seeing the same thing in Inventor 2018, 2019 and 2020.   If you can still, perhaps share what you're seeing in Inventor 2018 and what you can't do in 2019.  Because I'm not seeing a difference..

Out of the box and using the provided drawing template, I don't see those styles under obj def for Inventor 2018.   I guess that's why I'm confused in how they got there.

Make sure you the filter is set to All Styles.

Certain users like myself are not permitted to open word doc due to the security risk they can pose on our machine.   Just attach your images directly to the posting using the provide photo tool.

Yes I know to view all styles but this what I see for my Inventor 2018 out of the box using the provided drawing template

Can you click on the root of Inventor 2018 obj default like I have in my image so I can see if the listed style is local or in the designated (global) style.

Also look at the style library manager it is there but not migrating

Hi! You may want to check your Project setting and see if the \Design Data\ option is pointing to the right folder. I suspect it might be pointing to an older \Design Data\ folder which does not contain 3DA styles. For 2019, the default \Design Data\ is in "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2019."

We are also struggling to view or standardize the 'Object Defaults (ISO) - 3DA' styles in Inventor 2022...

The 'Object Defaults (ISO) - 3DA' is not showing in the out-of-box Inventor 2022 installation at all.

In any case, I found that manually editing the 'objectdefaults.xml' in your 'Design Data' folder...

i.e.: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2022\Design Data\objectdefaults.xml

And changed the numerical prefix of the InternalName to 2, the allows the style to be visible in Styles Manager.

Hi Vas,

The workflow to edit 3DA styles in Inventor is indeed a bit awkward at the moment. Here is an article describing the workflow. You will need to do it in a drawing file instead of the part file.
