3d sketch->plane-> sweep

Hi!

The file is attached.

 

I have a 3D sketch

 

I need to create plane at end point of line and perpendicular to line.

I want to create 2d sketch and then use sweep command.

 

How do I accomplish that?

Use the "Normal to Axis Through Point" method to create a workplane at the end of your 3d sketch.

It didn't work for me.
I couldn't press ok button

I used right click-> plane ->choose end point.
And it works fine.

I'm still using 2014, so the method might have changed somewhat in the newer versions.

 

Here is what happens when I make a workplane in a part or assembly file.

 

  1. Select the workplane tool from the ribbon menu
  2. Select the endpoint of a straight line or edge.
  3. Press the Control (or Shift) key and select the straight line or edge.
  4. Inventor creates the workplane.

I never get an "Ok" prompt.

 

Are you using the Control or Shift key to group your selections?  These are the standard Windows selection modifier tools so they should be easy to remember.

Works as expected on Inventor 2016 here.  Choose Work Plane tool, click on the line segment, then click on the point.  There's the plane.  The fact that you are seeing a disabled OK button indicates that you are doing something different than this.  Perhaps you can write out the steps that you're using, or post a video capture.

 

This even works while editing the 3D sketch, which is new to me.

Hi shivaprem - you're looking for a link to the full tutorial but I don't know which tutorial you mean, can you point me in the right direction?

 

Regarding the selection that doesn't work, as already suggested can you record a screencast so that we can see exactly the same thing that you can?

In this topic we are discussing 3 method for creating plane.

 

1) Normal to Axis Through Point- this works fine for me

 

2)Just Plane, this also work for me

 

3)normal to curve at point. In this case I have troubles since I can't select the line.

Hi - there are many tutorials available online relating to work planes, have you tried searching YouTube? This one at about 9 minutes seems to be what you're having trouble with.

Actually, all three are pretty much the same method.  In fact, I have never gotten accustomed to all the different "method" tools to produce a work plane (introduced sometime in the last six years or so, I believe).  I just use the generic Work Plane tool, and it works with whatever geometry you choose.

 

For example, in your 3D sketch, if I choose the line segment first, then for my second selection I can choose a point (normal to curve at point) or the adjacent line segment (two coplanar edges).  The different method tools simply filter the selections that you can make, but I believe that it's all the same command otherwise.

but for me it is important to learn and understand all methods.

 

One more question:

What is the difference between

-Normal at curve at point 

and

-normal to axis through the point

?

Normal to Curve at Point requires a curve (can also be a straight line/axis/edge, though) and a point on the curve.  This is particularly useful for splines, intersection edges, 3D sketch curves (e.g. helix or spiral), etc.  Normal to Axis Through Point requires a straight line/axis/edge and a point (sketch point/vertex/work point) which may or may not be on the axis.

but I don't understand why normal to curve at point doesn't work in this case

I just can't select the line

From the above, it seems like this isn't holding you back in continuing with your work, is that correct?
