Punch tool does not respect options for display on flat pattern. For this example, "center mark only". None of them change the state of the flat pattern though. Please see video attached.

Hi Chris,

If possible, please send me (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com) the punch ide, punch tool ipt, and the sheet metal ipt files. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!

Hi Chris,

Many thanks for sharing the files and findings! I think I know where the problem is. For this particular case, the rotation is about aligning the flat pattern body to a straight edge. Inventor chooses to align the body vertically with the horizontal straight edge.

The punchtool does not transform. It is the whole flat pattern rotates 90 deg.

You could realign the edges by doing the following.

  1. Activate the Flat Pattern.
  2. Right-click on the Flat Patter node in the browser -> Edit FP Definition -> Align Horizontal -> pick the horizontal edge.

The behavior does look silly. Interestingly, I cannot seem to reproduce it from scratch if I delete the old FP and recreate it. Are you able to reproduce it from scratch?

Thanks again!

Johnson,

While I appreciate your response, I fear you have entirely missed the point of the post.

The issue is that given the option: "Center Mark Only", I would expect the flat pattern to show a center mark and not the entire feature. The rotation of the part is not an issue.

Hi Chris,

I am terribly sorry that I misunderstood the issue. It has nothing to do with the rotation. It is about the punch tool removal. I took a second look. I think I know where the problem is.

Edit the Flat Pattern and go to "Punch Representation" tab -> uncheck "Ignore Individual Punch Representation Settings."

Many thanks!
