WOW. 20 Years of this. I really thought things have changed, well... last release was amazing but this is a really bad sign that Autodesk hv screwed this release up completely.

See attached screen shots.

  • Inventor on Primary Display.
  • Open Inventor
  • Click New
  • Click any dropdown or menu item and it opens on the secondary display.

From my experience, you should put it back in the box! Just wait another year and then release it. PLEASE.Screenshot 2023-04-09 153221.png

Yeah although it is a Windows issue (mostly), I don't see many other software suites having the same problem. Below are some previous articles and thread outlining similar/possible alternatives and solutions:

"1) Close Inventor.
2) Go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Environment Variables.
3) Create "QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR" and set it to 0.
4) Restart Inventor."

Qt as in Qt4.8? Inventor definitally uses Qt to develope Inv Yeah.
This doesn't sound like a 'Windows issue', more so an issue with the extension packages that Inv runs.
I'll follow up on your advise tho and appreciated.

Hi! This is usually related to display settings. Two other things to try. Go to Windows Display settings and select the recommended resolution and scale.

Right-click on Inventor desktop icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Change High DPI settings -> check both boxes.

Please report back your findings.

Many thanks!

I'm experiencing this same issue in 2024.1.  Right-click/context menus are appearing on my left screen (screen 2 in Windows) when Inventor is on the right screen (screen 1 in Windows).  If I change the left screen to be my primary display, I don't even see menus with Inventor on the right screen.  If I keep the left screen as "screen 2" and just move Inventor over, right-click menus are fine.

I've tried:

  • Reboot
  • Inventor Reset Utility
  • Changing High DPI settings as suggested
  • Changing primary display

It also doesn't happen with all context menus, just some.  For example:  Inventor Tolerance Analysis, right-click on items in the analysis/stackup, this causes the issue.

I'm trying to find other spots where this issue pops up, but I couldn't find any just right-clicking around on things yet.  If I find more, I'll be sure to share.  It also doesn't happen with the marking menus.

Hi Eric,

I believe this is related to the scaling of Qt UI framework. Try the following and see if it helps. Go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Environment Variables. Create the two variables.

"QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR" and "QT_SCALE_FACTOR"

Set both as 1. Restart your machine and Inventor.

Many thanks!
