2021.1 mirror feature error

When I mirror a feature in latest 2021.1 got this strange behaviour, feature is mirrored to the right side of the part, but the mirrored feature itself faces the wrong side.

Don't care about mirrored feature being somewhat visually corrupted, always been like that.

BTW, if that could fixed too it would be great.

See attachments, thanks

Attached is another example which I've been designing this morning.

Here the iFeature (a group of 4 inserts) is mirrored twice on the same face and get this cross-over effect...

Are you seeing this problem with mirroring any feature, or is it only iFeatures or only punch features?

Interestingly enough... roll up the End of Part to just above the punch feature,... and then back to the bottom.  the mirrors all come out correct.

Hi Marco,

This is absolutely a bug. Something is wrong. Do you still have the part you extract the punchtool from? If yes, please share it here or send it to me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. It may be due to older iFeature storing the wrong face references.

Many thanks!

I don't have the part I extracted the iFeature from.

Made most of them some 15 years ago from a simple sheet-metal face I made for the purpose and deleted just after saving iFeature.

Attached is the relevant .ide file, btw it was already migrated to 2021

I tried by mirroring the same ide as iFeature and punch.

- As iFeature mirror is [partially] correct - like as always been in previous releases (not completely modelled on the top surface)

- As punch is mirrored on the wrong side

Accepted solution

Hi Marco,

I suspect the behavior is indeed defective and it was embedded in the original source part and also the ide file. Though, the ide file is saved in 2021, it does not mean the features are migrated to 2021. Attached is a simple example of a similar punchtool recreated from scratch in 2021. Mirror and pattern seems to work fine.

Many thanks!

Thank you. However this issue started with 2021.1, never had such with previous releases (2021 vanilla included)

Hi Marco,

I tried the exact same workflow on 2021 RTM build using the ide file. I got the same behavior, except the extrusion direction was different. But, it was still wrong.

Do you have the original ide file? I would like to see how it worked in prior releases.

Many thanks!

Hi Marco,

Many thanks for sharing the old ide file! I tried it on 2019. It did not work correctly there either. I suspect it might have something to do with disjoint lumps (two separate lumps). Regardless, it should work.

Thanks again!

Hi Marco,

I never mentioned that it would be fixed on 2021.2. This seems to be a geometry specific issue. Do you still have the source ipt file extracting to the iFeature?

Try this and see if it works for you. After inserting the punchtool (or editing an existing one), check "Across Bend." Then the mirror will work fine.

Many thanks!
