2020.1 - Custom Dictionary Issue

Both myself and a customer have upgraded this morning to Inventor 2020.1. We have noticed that when using text, Inventor complains that it cannot find the Custom dictionary.
While it’s a simple fix (copy the Dictionaries folder from the default Design Data folder into your own Design Data folder) I think Autodesk should 'tweak' something so that its copied automatically.

After having the same issue I have tried both copying the dictionaries to where it was originally looking and changing where it is looking (both of which worked for the custom dictionaries). But whatever I do, the built in dictionaries are not there and I'm unable to select any language. 😞

Hi,

In the last half hour we have had a customer with the same problem see attached. They updated to 2020.1 today.

Can anyone at Autodesk help?

The answers in this forum post will remove the error but the built in dictionaries will still be missing.

Hi! Many thanks for sharing the issue! Somehow the update breaks the Custom Dictionary path. If you go to Spell Checking setting to reselect the dictionaries, would it work? I am still working with the project team to understand the behavior.

When a new path is selected the error message no longer appears and the custom dictionary is fine but unfortunately this doesn't fix the built in dictionaries 😞

Hi Dan,

Have you tried copying all dictionaries to the path where inventor is looking for the custom dictionaries? This worked for me.

Yes thanks, I followed the link on the original post and copied the files.  It all resolved now thanks.

I just wondered whether Autodesk had provided an official solution. As I'm sure lots of people will have this issue. Still, you've solved it for me, so thanks very much for your time,

Hi Guys,

Yes, we are working on a fix to resolve the issues. The spell check related problems in 2020.1 are wrong. They should not have happened in the first place. The workarounds here are temporary solutions to get past the issues for now. They are not permanent. I am very sorry for the trouble they have caused. Hopefully, they will be fixed soon in a update (2020.2 or earlier).

Just a typical upgrade installation & migration, coming from Inventor 2018.  Nothing out of the ordinary I haven't been doing for the last 10 years that I can think of, short of the majority of users can now manage their own installation thanks to the Autodesk accounts.

The solution was as posted on the forums, copying the dictionary file to our design data folder on the network.  My guess would be this custom dictionary did not exist in 2018 versions and the installation did not review the current active project folder to determine the correct save location when performing the migration.
