2018 can't pin mini toolbar

In an .ipn pinning the mini toolbar seems to have no effect.  Is this a bug, or just me?

When I open up a presentation file I do not see any mini toolbar.  Can you post an image of what you are talking about?

sorry, a little punchy after a long day.  Whenever I start a "tweak", the mini toolbar pops up somewhere (randomly?) even though "lock toolbar position is selected"

not in the top left, where it was pinnednot in the top left, where it was pinned

Ok, I see what you are talking about.  Are you up to date with SP's?  I am using 3.0 and I am not seeing what you are seeing.  I see the mini toolbar, but when I pin it, it stays in place where I placed it.

Yes, update 3 is installed.  Very strange.

Nope, good suggestion though - it works until I close the file (I've tried setting it and closing/reopening inventor as well).

Hi! Have you tried using Inventor Reset Utility? Close Inventor and go to All Programs -> Autodesk -> Inventor Pro 2018 -> Tools -> Inventor Reset Utility -> 2018. Unfortunately, you may lose all your customized setting. Inventor will reset it back to install defaults.

Many thanks!

I don't customize much (outside of templates) for exactly reasons like this - if I need to reinstall/reset it's a shorter time to up and running.

I've tried it, preliminary success, will test throughout today and let you know.

Regardless - thank you for a reset utility!

Hi! You are very welcome! I suspect it could be related to certain Qt5 settings. Inventor uses Qt5 UI framework, which is shared by many Autodesk or non-Autodesk applications. Sometimes, Qt5 can react to certain setting or change in other applications leading to bizarre behaviors. This is just a speculation. If you know how to reproduce the issue from scratch, please let us know asap.

Many thanks!

I need to unaccept this solution - the next time I rebooted everything is not locked again.

I also have an issue where my ui elements don't stay in place - my ilogic browswer and snapshot views are randomly re-arranged when I log in.  They stay in place while Inventor is open, but when I restart, they are randomized again.

I don't know if these are related issues?  Perhaps write permissions in the registry, or the install folder?

Hi! Do you mind describing what you did and it worked for a while before rebooting? Did you use Inventor Reset Utility? If yes, it sounds like your user profile does not allow certain options to stay. Are you admin to the machine? If not, what is your Windows user type?

Many thanks!

I used the inventor reset - all my settings went back to "out of box", and the mini toolbar was locked where I left it until I rebooted.

I am the administrator on my machine (it's likely temporary though, due to security upgrades here).  Can you tell me where those things are stored?  I can check read/write on the folder or registry key.

Hi! I am sorry I don't know exactly where they are stored. You used Inventor Reset Utility and set back the settings. It worked for a while, meaning something in the settings or registry must be related to the unpin behavior. I need to work with the project team to find out the exact setting controlling the behavior.

Another place you may want to check is the environment variables. Go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Environment variable. Do you see anything called "Qt5"?

Many thanks!

Nothing in either "Variable" or "Value" referring to Qt5.

Thanks for continuing to look into this!  It's not a show stopper, but it is a source of frustration.  Ideally, the mini-toolbars would go away forever and we'd just get regular toolboxes...

Still not working - sometimes it's pinned, sometimes it's in a random location.  It seems to show up in the same location each time if I uncheck "pin mini-toolbar" just not the location I put it.

Does no one else experience this?

If I turn on auto-fade it seems to work more reliably.  This is just weird.

Nevermind, still completely random.  It will be in the same spot for a couple of goes, and then randomly somewhere else.  How do I even troubleshoot this?  I have nowhere to look for information about where this setting is stored.

Hi! I will work with the project team and see if this is a known flaky issue.

Many thanks!
