2017 - Import STP File as Multi-Body part

I am trying to bring in a STP file that I got from a vendor.  I need this to be saved to Inventor, but I want to this to be a multi-body part.  I could do this in 2015, but now with 2017 with the new "Reference" model changes, the Assembly options is greyed out.  I looked in the help and found where it described how it should work, but that is not what I am seeing when I bring in my model.

I am using Inv Professional 2017 RTM,  Hotfix 1.  If I go ahead and accecpt the defaults shown here, I end up with an iam that has 58 parts in it.  That is not what I want. I want a multi-body .ipt file.

.

Thanks,

Kirk

If it's the same as with 2016, then start a part file and use the import function to place your step...
I think that should do the trick.

open a blank assembly ... Drop and drag it into that file ...

It was a work around I did in 2016 and 2017 ...when someone told me it wasn't possible ... Smiley Mad

However if you do the place  it does (which works the same as my drop and drag work around)

Michael, the way i read it Kirk wants a multisolid part not an assembly.
So using the import function on the '3D model' tab in a part file should give the result he's after.

I started a new ipt, but I could not find an insert command on the 3D Model tab.  The insert panel was turned off.  When I turned it on, I can get exactly what I need.

Thanks Guys.
