2010 stability

Has anyone else been dealing with a lot of crashes in 2010? We upgraded a few weeks ago and have had more than normal reports of crashes in our department. We have around 20 regular users. Unfortunetly we also upgraded a lot of the PCs at the same time so it is possible that may be the issue also. We are still using Windows XP pro 32 bit SP2. We've addressed the spaceball driver issue for the people that use those.
It is possible that some problems are caused by the fact that we are often working with complex parts and large assemblies of those parts so that many users spend a lot of time in the "yellow" and "red" zone of the resource meter. We have been unable to convince our IS department to install 64 bit OSs across the board but we have a couple of test machines with 64 bit XP and 6-8 GB of RAM.
Any thoughts?

-Jon

old machines:
Inventor 2010
Windows XP pro SP2
HP xw6200
4GB RAM
3GB switch enabled
3.2GHZ Xeon CPU
Nvidia Quadro 3450 using Direct3d w/ driver: 6.14.11.6996

new machines:
Inventor 2010
Windows XP pro SP2
HP xw 8600
8GB RAM (I know we can't use it, but we dream of 64 bit)
Nvidia GEForce GTX 280 using Direct3d

Are you getting the CER (crash error report or whatever its called) screen after the crash? If so do you submit those or just ignor.. You really should submit everyone if you don't.
I was having crashes and it was a crash without the CER and it was 100% related to the 3d connection space navigator.. The latest driver has stopped those crashes completely.

Also are you using the Ribbon UI? If so try switching back to classic UI (application options..colors tab) and see if that helps.

I too am having stability issues. I just got a new Dell workstation:
Dell T5500
Quad Core E5520 2.26 GHz
6GB DDR3 ECC SDRAM 1066MHz
Quadro FX 4800 1.5GB
160GB SATA X 2 in RAID 0
Vista Business x64

I get both crashes with and without the error screen. I don't use the space pilot, so that isn't an issue.

We're about half and half of users with 32 bit and 64 bit. 90% of our crash issues are on the 64 bit machines. No error report screen given.

Reasons for crashing..... Probably catch some flak on this reply..... in
order of frequency:

#1 - Graphics Cards and Drivers or system memory. Other issues can
contribute - undersized power supplies not properly supporting high end
Graphics card power needs, etc.

#2 - Improper Inventor installations -

#3 - User Error -

#4 - External hardware/Drivers - ie; 3D controllers, auxillary equipment,
including network hardware issues

#5 - Network CRC failures - Try running locally and see if the crashes stop.

#6 Random bugs... usually an extremenly small percentage.

Running IV2010 and 2009 here on xp64 8GB. Dead stable.

Looks like our stability issues may have been caused by another program that we recently installed. Our applications support team have had some preliminary success solving the crash issues after this program was un-installed. We should know pretty soon if that is the case. I will update our progress.
Thanks, Jon
