Unable to activate Revit 2018 license and launch Revit 2018 (other computer)

Hello,

I have two computers, one laptop and one desktop computer. I have installed Revit 2018 on both computers and am encountering issues with using the program on both computers:

1. I am able to launch the program on my laptop, but I cannot activate the product

2. I cannot launch the program on my desktop computer

Information about lapop issue:

Specifications (performance has not been an issue while using revit during the free trial):

- i3-4000M CPU 2.40 GHz

- intel HD graphics 4600

- 8192MB RAM

When I try to activate Revit after launching it by clicking "connect now and activate" and "next" I am given the error message "Your online activation request has returned an error (400) which is not allowing your request to be processed using our automated systems."

When I try to request an activation code through register.autodesk.com and select my account after logging in, I am given the error message "Thanks for initiating your product activation. The system encountered a problem registering or activating your product."

I have also tried to request an activation code through ava.autodesk.com but I am given the error message "An error occurred while I was processing your request."

I have reinstalled Revit but that didn't help either.

I have restarted the computer several times.

Information about desktop issue:

Specifications:

- i3-7300 CPU 4.00 GHz

- GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

- 8192 MB RAM

- 37.4 GB free storage post installation (SSD)

When I launch the program it immediately says "Autodesk Revit has stopped working".

I have tried running the program as administrator and I have restarted the computer multiple times.

Here is the error log I found on Event Viewer:

Faulting application name: Revit.exe, version: 18.0.0.420, time stamp: 0x58af4d3c

Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 10.0.15063.608, time stamp: 0x943cbf8b

I have looked around the internet with no luck, please help.

What type of license do you have for Revit 2018?  Carried over perpetual or subscription based?  Do you have a CLIC license?  Was a serial # issued to you?

For the computer that is failing, I would suggest following the steps in this article.

I am a student, how do you see if the license is carried over perpetual or subscription based? All I can find under license type is Standalone.

I don't know if I have a CLIC license. The product does have a serial number.

The article didn't help, unfortunately.

Student license are technically perpetual license.  If AVA didn't work for you, you need to contact the Educational Support Team.  Another method is contacting the Autodesk Licensing and Activation team ((866 681-4359) but they may point you back to the Educational Support Team.

For the machine that will not launch, what is the operating system?  Do you have netframe 4.7 installed?

Hello @Anonymous,

Welcome to the community.

Please review the following information to better assist you with the activation process. Try to get one computer up and running first then move on to the other.

For the laptop:

You seem to be encountering an Activation Limit Error 400.

  1. If you have reached the limit of times you can activate, which seems like the issue then try a License Reset
  2. Review the Steps for Setting-Up Student Software
  3. An internet connection is required to sign in and activate, every 30days you should be connected to the internet at some point (to verify your license & use the software) Adjust your proxy settings, to allow access during the install & first launch, also make sure you have an uninterrupted connection.

For the desktop:

  1. Make sure you are selecting the 64bit in the drop down if you have a 64bit system, in your account.
  2. Conduct a Clean Uninstall of the program & use the MSfixitTool to complete the uninstall
  3. Prepare to Download & Install

  4. Use the Browser Download Method in your Autodesk Account

Keep us informed on this, we would like to know how it turns out. Let us know which computer & exactly what steps you tried on it.

Please "Accept As Solution" if a reply has helped resolve the issue or answered your question, to help others in the community.

For the license, I can't seem to log in though the link you sent me. Would this page work for contacting them? https://www.autodesk.com/education/support/edu-contact-us-form

For the desktop, I am using Windows 10 home and I have netframe 4.7 installed.

Doing the clean uninstall with MSfixitTool seemed to do the trick for the desktop! It also looks like I was able to activate the license on the desktop as it no longer says it's unregistered. I'll try and do the same thing with my laptop.

Thank you so much for your help!

Hello @Anonymous,

No problem, let us know if you need help with the activation, but if the install goes well & the "Let's Get Started" window appears after launch you shouldn't have a problem. You can activate by following the steps in the post with the information in your student account.

Thank you for coming back to let us know. Smiley Happy
