Day 1 - Installed Maya 2020, Signed in, Used Maya to follow a long intro-to-Maya tutorial.
Day 2 - Finish the long tutorial, get to the last chapter about Arnold. Discover that my Maya has no Arnold features.
I opened the Plug-in Manager window and found mtoa.mll and clicked Loaded and got this error: "C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2020/scripts/others/pluginWin.mel line 317: initializePluginfunction failed (mtoa)"
I clicked autoload and restarted maya and saw the same error when the Maya window opened along with this other one:
"// Warning: file: C:/Program Files /Autodesk/Maya2020/scripts/others/supportRendereres.mel line 67: The renderer "arnold" used by this scene, is not currently available. The "mayaSoftware" renderer will be used instead..."
I downloaded the Arnold installer from my account's products page on the autodesk website.
When trying to install it failed with these messages:
pitreg.exe - System Error - The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.
LicensingUpdater.exe - System Error - The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.
And now when I try to run Maya I get this error:
maya.exe - System Error - The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.
Day 3
A help article on the autodesk site said to look in the folder the Maya installer extracts to (c:/autodesk) and find all Visual C++ installers in there, make note of their version, go to the control panel, UNinstall all those versions, and then reinstall them starting with the oldest ones first by using the the installers in the extracted folder. I did all that. I still get the error.
Other programs like Firefox and Greenshot started giving me the same error.
Uninstalled Maya and repaired all the Visual C++ installations and now both Firefox and Greenshot are no longer giving me that error about VCRUNTIME140_1.dll
Tried reinstalling Maya again to see if it comes with Arnold.
The installer says it contains Substance in Maya 2020 and Arnold for Maya 2020, same as last time.
Installation complete:
√ Autodesk Maya 2020
√ Arnold for Maya 2020
√ Substance in Maya 2020
But now I can't figure out how to get it to run.
I am signed in to the Autodesk Desktop app. My account has "sign-in activation" for Maya.
I run Maya and I get a "Let's get started" screen where I assume I'm supposed to choose "single-user".
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/download-install/activate/subscriber-activation
I click "single-user" and Maya quits.
I don't understand how I was automatically signed in to the Autodesk desktop app when I had un-installed it along with everything else from Autodesk when I uninstalled Maya.
I signed out of the Autodesk app and quit it and quit it again from the system tray and tried running Maya again. I clicked "single user" and it closed again. Nothing else happened.
